WgCdrCedric, I can anticipate a couple of your questions, and provide some preliminary answers.
First, as you're on a MAC, you're at a disadvantage, as (if I understand correctly), there are presently no supported importers to import content directly in the MAC OS. This will mean that you need to develop facility with Windows emulators on the MAC OS. Since I know little more about the MAC OS than its existence, I have reached the limit of my ability to provide assistance on this issue,
Next question, as to what to use, you would be well advised, in my view, to gain a reasonable degree of competence in a 3D modeling software package. The platform currently officially supported by N3V is 3DS Max, but I don't know if that is available in a MAC version, or not. The other current major package not currently official supported is Blender, and it is available in a MAC version, there's just no exporter / importer to get your content into Trainz. But if you were to work through either of the free on line courses in Blender (a high school level course by
James Chronister, and a college level course by
Neil Hirsig), and gain a degree of competency in Blender, finding someone to help you get your assets into the game will be easy.
You will probably also want to gain some facility with image processing software
. I am partial to GIMP, which I know to be available for both Windows and MAC., but there are others image processing platforms that are probably as good by other vendors.
I would strongly recommend that in downloading any software, that you get it from official sources. For Blender, this would be from te downloads page of the
Blender Foundation website though I see while verifying the address that there is a new version (2.76) due to be released shortly, and I might wait for the new release. For Gimp, the official site is at <http://www.gimp.org/>.
