Coconut God
After some adventures getting a second license for TS12, then spending the day re-downloading a bunch of dependencies (they REALLY need to redesign multiplayer to not be so pedantic, everything that worked a couple months ago no longer works today because of updates) I finally got one multiplayer session working on both computers, and my son and I spent half an hour driving L trains around Chicago Metro 2. Since we're in the same room 10 feet apart we really don't need the chat window, is there a way to shut that off?

Other observations, the session I used;

Chicago Metro V2 CTA multiplayer 16 30,<kuid:522774:100225>

has 16 player trains with AI trains spawning from both ends at 30 minute intervals. The jury is still out on how well AI traffic trains work in multiplayer sessions, but the one bit of confusion I saw was that every AI train running had "Sniper297" label above it same as my train, which caused some baffling moments occasionally when trying to find the one I was really driving. :hehe: Hopefully someone knows a way to change the label on AI trains so they're not the same as the host.

My son hasn't played Trainz much (he's an MSTS wiz since age 11 and still prefers that) so he derailed his first train on a trailing point switch, took some time to figure out how to reassign him to a different one. After that we tried a head on collision but we just passed through each other like ghosts, which is no fun at all.

Next up is getting KrashNburne and IntenCity multiplayer working again (more nonsense about updates so it's not ready to play) since those are ideal for two players.

Hello Sniper,

Yes, you can disable the chat wondow. In the box that says "Multiplayer" at the top in a multiplayer session, click on Game Settings, then on Hide Chat Window.
Job done. :)

I believe that, provided this is your own session o the DLS and you can update it, it is possible to change the tag on an AI train. First, make a new version of the session in CM, that will overwrite the old version. Go to Surveyor, then Edit Session, then Drivers. Go to the AI drivers and make sure thy are set to AI Driver, not First Human Player or Autodetect. Save and upload the update.

Hope this helps,

Kieran.

That works, never noticed the "autodetect" in the list. Waiting now to see if a train spawning from a portal gets the label or not, since there's no option for that inside a portal. Found the multiplayer submenu and was able to find the hide chat window, question is can I reverse that? Looking all over the place, don't see a way to get the multiplayer window back again once the session starts, so is it a once shot deal? Either run the session with or without the chat window, no way to turn it on and off during the session?

Rats.

They get the label when they spawn from a portal, how do I stop that?

My understanding of your question is that you don,t want the AI drivers to display your name. Thats easy to fix. Two methods both done when you are playing the game. no need to go into surveyor. 1. Select Main Menu, Options, Video Settings (default), untick box at bottom "Show names in multiplayer". This will stop the locomotives displaying the name of the player the driver is assigned to. 2. 4th button from left at top of screen (server online) usually green. click on picture of your driver and select the option "player details". Click on red arrow of each driver you wish to unassign. For example Driver Bill Gates emerges from the Portal assigned to you and displaying your name. Unassigning him will remove your name and enable another player (your wife) to take over at any time. She can also do it if she is an officer by the way. But back to the point of my post. If you unassign a driver he/she will still carry out any driver command he/she has been given.

My WIFE?!

Scared me for a minute there, both of my ex wives live in California or Colorado (or someplace like that, who cares as long as they're far far away), and I'm pretty sure I didn't get married again last night. Haven't even been to Las Vegas in 25 years, come to think of it.

Anyway yeah, you can just hide ALL the labels, the idea is to have the labels over the player trains but not over the AI trains, or give the AI trains a label different from the host's name. Doable with the AI "starter" trains already on the route, question is how to apply that to the ones spawning from portals. Anybody else ever experiment with AI traffic in multiplayer, or am I the only one screwy enough to try it? :hehe: Other item is how to turn the chat window on and off, or is that a one shot deal?

To have the labels over the player trains only you would need to do my 2nd sugestion but only unassign the AI drivers. The label can only be the name of the player the driver is assigned to. In the case of a train coming out of a Portal this will always be the host. You can change it to another player in the session after it emerges from the Portal but thats about the limit. As for the Chat box, when mine bothers me I move most of it off screen and drag it back when I need it again. I am not aware of a on/off switch for it.

Sniper,

To activate or deactivate multiplayer ingame chat -
1 Go to the server online button, left click it.
2 Left click game settings.
3 Now left click
- Hide game chat window
or
- Show game chat window

Hope this explains this.

P.S. This is done while in game at anytime, no need to preset before starting a session.

EUREKA! Thanks, that works. Looked at that button, assumed it was just an indicator light, never thought to click it to see if it was interactive.
