Question about ATLS traffic stoppers

I've been updating the UMR2014 route to use the ATLS crossings, and am pleased with the results. I've got them working fairly well, but there is still one problem I notice happening periodically. If the crossing is triggered at the exact time a car is in the crossing, it'll stop on the tracks when it encounters the second traffic stopper.

I know nothing about scripting or anything like that, but I was wondering if these traffic stoppers could be programmed to be directional, ie traffic arriving from one direction will stop as normal, but traffic from the other direction will ignore the stopper. That would allow the traffic stuck in the crossing to leave without getting crushed.

It's also entirely possible (even likely) that I'm doing something wrong. I've copied the setup of the crossings in the Mojave route to the best of my knowledge.

I've sent an email to the creator (Boat), but have had no response.

Any suggestions or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

neil

Put a road connection point on the inside between the track and the traffic stopper. This will make them directional since the cars will now ignore the traffic stopper in that direction. Put the point as close to the traffic stopper as you can.

So if "-" is road and "o" is spline point and "T" is stopper and "X" is track, some thing like this:

---T-o---X---o-T----

Ive had this problem too, and have all ways wondered.

Haha, forgot to mention that I've already tried that. I know this was a kind of bug which we could use to our advantage, but it seems that the bug has been fixed in the latest update. I added spline points to all of the crossings thinking this would work, but sadly, they still get stuck.

I guess what I'm wondering is, is it even possible to make the traffic stoppers work in one direction only?

Thanks for the replies.

Place two roads, one invisible, each attached to only one stopper. The road that exits the crossing will pass over the other stopper and re-join further along. Place a spline point on this exit road between the unused stopper and the joining and move it slightly of centre so traffic will use the correct road to the required stopper.

I use jmann traffic stoppers. If you have a two track main line, I place it right in the middle and never have any problems. Here is one of a four different ones jmann has on the DLS. https://www.auran.com/TRS2004/DLS_viewasset.php?AssetID=281745

Yep, use the longer versions of Traffic Stoppers. Paulzmay has them also, and I think his are rollable

Hey Dan - thanks for the suggestion. It's worked really well. There's only one crossing that may cause me some problems because of the extreme angle it's on, but I'm sure I'll figure something out.

Hi Guys.......

Sorry I didn't reply to your e-mail, Neil. I've been away for a couple of weeks. Anyway, you seem to have sorted it.

Yes, TS12 is more temperamental with the 'close spline point' solution. I've had that trouble too. They have to be really close.... and even then some cars get stuck. You can do a clever bit of overlaying with invisible roads to simutate a 'one-way' stopper but its tedious. Just extending the size of the Stopper seems a good idea. If other people have done that already then that's great.

Since the Stopper is just an invisible level crossing, I don't believe there is any easy way to make it directional.

Cheers,

Boat
