PRR Screenshots

I just got another external 2 terabyte drive. :D

I'm trying to figure out how to shoehorn in bendorsey's passenger car shop now, although, so far as I can tell, the Wilmington shop primarily worked on electric locomotives.

Edit:-

Doesn't look exactly like the old shops but a good first approximation. Good enough for me anyway. :D

might work for you.

Those are 4 of the worst switch machines ... I was using them years ago ... but have replaced them with more realistic switch machines

Does anyone really know what color switch lanterns the PRR used ?

These are the colors that I am guessing that the PRR used:

Green corona, White metal disc ... Amber corona, Yellow metal disc
(bluish lens, with a yellowish kerosene flame, made green light)

Green corona, White metal disc ... Red corona, Red metal disc
(bluish lens, with a yellowish kerosene flame, made green light)

================================================

Red corona, Red metal disc ... Amber corona, Yellow metal disc
Yellow would mean caution, or normal route
Red would mean Stop, or diverging route

White corona, White metal disc ... Red corona, Red metal disc
(clear corona, with a yellowish kerosene flame, made for a bright amberish light)

It's my understanding that the greenish and bluish lenses above that go with white targets are actually pale blue glass ("lunar white") which can be distinguished from plain clear at a distance, at night - clear looks amber or even red with a lamp behind it; "lunar white" is considered white.

I'm researching what colors pennsy used for there switch lanterns . But is seems they used white , yellow , and red green for yards . And white and red for main interlocking ? But Jersey shore used blue, white, and yellow . I've just started , but I'm finding it really depends where and trackage use . But station also used purple ?

If anyone knows of a good site for, or book for information . Please let me know by post or PM .

Hi Railwoodman.

I looked at Rob’s PRR Page (by Rob Schoenberg), http://prr.railfan.net/, an excellent source of info including PDF-ed scans of many many official PRR standard plans. I looked under PRR Signal Plans, but didn't find anything there on switch signal lamps.

I found two under PRR Standard MOW Plans.
http://prr.railfan.net/standards/standards.cgi?plan=73915-A&rr=pennsy&frame=YES
http://prr.railfan.net/standards/standards.cgi?plan=73916-b&rr=pennsy&frame=YES

By distilling down the text on the plans, I came up with these general guidelines.
Main tracks:
straight or through track – white background or target, green lens or reflector
diverging track – red background or target, red lens or reflector
Yard tracks:
straight or through track – white background or target, green lens or reflector
diverging track – yellow background or target, red lens or reflector

I also looked in my copies of the 1925 PRR Rule Book and the 1910 PRR Rule Book, but did not find anything about switch signal lamps in them.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the complement Ken . And the info Jim . I would like to pass along what I discover myself .

Switch Lamps--End of Two Main Tracks
4037-A. At the end of two main tracks where switch is not interlocked nor spring switch is in service, when the switch is set for trains to move in normal direction, switch lamp will display white disc (green light at night). When the switch is set against train movement in normal direction, switch lamp will display red disc (red light at night).

The normal position of switches will be designated in special instruction on the time-table.

Fouling Points
4037-B. Sign displaying letters FP, or a yellow stripe about 10 inches wide painted on the inside and outside of head, web and base of both rails in a track indicates the fouling point of main track of the track on which it is located.

Track Troughs
4040-A. Track troughs in service will be marked:

At entrance --
By day: White target.
By night: Lunar white light.
At exit --
By day: Yellow target.
By night: Yellow light.
At middle -- Same as at entrance. (When used)
Out of service -- By day and night, all yellow targets and yellow lights. EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 28, 1956
