PRR Screenshots

I have been dumbfounded and at a standstill, by my curve radius being non-exact, and non-semetrical.

Suddenly it came to me:

Curve Radius 100-600m 90 Degree by maddog1169
Curve Radius 750-1500m 30 Degree by maddog1169

I use these curve radius guides all the time, but on a DEM they have a height restriction.
Also on a DEM, when you have a sloping topography (a gradient curve) the templates either, sink into the ground, or hover above the ground, on one end.
I solved this problem by Cloning his curve guides, and added the tags just above his rotstep tag:

rotate-yz-range -60,60
height-range -3000,3000
rotstep 0.5

Now I can place maddog1169's Curve Radius Guide on any angle ... as well as at any height ... and it is truely universal now and perfect for laying exact curves on a DEM ... and much easier to use than FT Track semi-circles (although I am going to try something with FT Track by also using these tags in the config files.

So if I placed 4 of them exactly in the same spot ... rotated each on 90 degrees to each other ... tilted each of them -.50m ... and raised each ones height till the ends match up ... I have a spiral helix curve guide, for laying track curves on a gradient.

Most of my curves are well below 300m radius, and on NG brach lines, sometimes as tight as 50m radius horseshoes on my Wopsy RR branch line.

I will try to post a screenshot sometime soon to better describe this addaption of maddog1169's cool tool.

Making progress on an EBT RR (East Broad Top) DEM, as well as this huge PRR DEM.

I now have a small connecting DEM from Petersburg PA to Mt Union Pa ... so as to connect the EBT to the PRR mainline on my DEM.

Edit: As of Aug 8th, 2013

I have trackwork in from a couple miles east of Mount Union Pa to Petersburg Pa ... this goes all the way to Johnstown, Philipsburg, Nanty Glo, and Claysburg Pa.

The East Broad Top DEM will remain separate from the PRR DEM, as those with lower end PC's might not appreciate a huge 50,000 baseboard DEM.

Estimated completion date: 2037

I Yam so freekin'n bored ... I have a route from Johnstown to Mount Union ... over a hundred miles of perfectly aligned track, with perfect curves ... when I drive, I see the track curve left, then go straight, then go right ...etc ... etc ... over and over again ... so repiticious ! All I see is swerving track, going right and left. Even though I know each area by heart ... it all seems so dull !

Track ... Curve ... Track ... Curve ... BLAH !

I think I been in Trainz too long ... If a job employer asked me: "Why do you do it" ? "Why do you align tracks so well" ... "only to burn out" ... "seeing as it is just rights, lefts, and straights" ? ... I don't know what I would tell them ... how do you explain the most dull thing in the world ... driving a twain, down the dull ol' twacks !

Of course I have no scenery , just blank gray baseboard grids (I guess that would help break up the monotony a bit if I filled my blah, with scenery) ... But it still seems all so DULL !

I tried the EBT RR ... and too ... the track just goes Right, Left, then Straight ... a never ending doldrum of swerving track.

My son plays GTA V ... and it is the most monotanous game in the world ... driving at 237mph smashing into things ... You can steal an Air Force jet ... and jump aboard a train, and shoot things up ... but the video game world is just so bloody BORING ... DULL ... DULL ... DULL !

I sit at the Horseshoe Curve, and place trackside cameras all over creation ... OH, NO ... Here it comes ... It's a, a, a ... a Twain (they all seem to look the same) !

well....you may need to take a break then ;) Sometimes trainz just gets annoying, but if you leave for a bit, you'll see, after some weeks you start again and it makes fun again :D
And yeah...scenery always helps at least a little bit to make a route looking good ^^
About Video games - well i also play GTA, and the last thing i would say about it is that it's boring O.o

some alibi pics to not get this too far off topic#

I tried taking a break form surveyor ... for months (and I am better at surveyor, than I have ever been, before, ... hundreds of miles of exceptionally spectacular perfect curves, and immaculate gradients) ... now when I come back to laying tracks, it all seems so pointlessly DULL ... (it's like waking up and suddenly realizing how you hate being an accountant) ... Here comes da' twain, twoo da' twee's, again ... A, DaHur !

I can't believe I came so far ... only to realize how utterly boring it all is !

It's like a grande revelation in my life ... the things I do are absolutely: Bee, Or, Ring !

As far as video games, I play Fallout New Vegas (best game in the world), Batman Arkham Origins, and Far Cry 3. I actually based my city route off of The dense art deco/gothic look of Gotham and I have a few Fallout easter eggs in my routes.

If I'm inspired by games in anyway in trainz, its definitely from Mafia 2. But here is a naked screenshot of my current fictional project:
I need 4 engines to get a 70 car freight train up these intense grades.

Nice, I like to see engines working hard on an incline. Nothing better then steam struggling up grade, or diesel in notch 8 at 15 mph. K&L steam is always great to see:D. What's the grade at, and is this your map? Self made, or DL.

Its a DEM from the fishlips works. The map is called Bethlehem PA, But I making a fictitious version for the Pennsy and Reading. This train is just a string of empties heading for the mines. Going Up grade on this side of the mountains is not as challenging as the other side. EDIT: DCC mode I hardly ever use on this map. Cab mode is where its at :D
