I installed Trainz 2010 on a new computer, all i get is poor frame rates in DirectX and in Open GL get a lot of flickering and crashes. I have build 44088 installed. I also notice that Nvidia contol panel has a program setting profile for Trainz 2004 (can't delete it) and i think since 2004 and 2010 are the same file names i'm wondering if this is one of the problems. I have a computer that runs great with any other games i just having problem with TS2010. I've tried changing settings from all low to all high settings and there is no change. I Tried changing setting in nVidia Control Panel and no change. Also when in directX mode the draw rate is very slow.

my computer
Windows 7 Ultimate 64
Core i7 990x
24GB Memory
Dual Nvidia GTX 580 (270.61 Drivers)
Realtek Audio
Asus Rampage III Extreme

Can someone help:'(

Have you moved some Routes/Assets from 2006/2009 into 2010? If so, the errors and faults from the earlier version are the source of the problem. With your system TS2010 using just built in routes/assets should run just fine. It does on my machine with an i5 650, 5GB of RAM and a single MSI 1GB OCGT 430 (not a super card by any means). Running in DirecX gives 30-40 fps and occasionally 50+ fps. OGL is not as good, running about 20-30 fps.

I did have 2009 routes imported to 2010 put built in routes have same affect. I get no more than 10 fps however opengl get about 25 to 30 but lots of flickering and crashes and in opengl some assets like "m: ultra trees" are displayed funny. in directx everything looks good just poor fps.

Hmm. I thought trainz 2010 was stable and didn't get any crashes such as fatal errors.

It is stable in and of itself. However, if you attempt to run 2010 with too many older assets installed without first running them through CCP it can bog down. (Just my limited experience in the past two weeks.) No problem when using all built-in content and/or updated assets from the DLS.

I am no expert on dual card setups but from what I have read in the forums Trainz sems to like single cards better. Try disabling 1x video card and see what happens. 1x 580 card should be more than enough to handle Trainz. I am running with a single 260 card with satisfactory performance and am not in a hurry to upgrade at the moment.
Also some people had issues with the 270 drivers and rolled them back to 266 series. that might be worth a try.

This SLI mode debate seems to vary from person to person, I run dual NV 460's and my Trainz is nice and smooth. It must depend on what system bits n bobs you have.

Sounds like a UAC problem, you're trying to change settings and Win7 is either denying permission or pretending to accept your changes while secretly laughing at you. :hehe: From what I understand, if you're going to play any type of game on Windows 7, you need to log in only as administrator, install everything as administrator, and make any changes as administrator.

I think that may be an Nvidia issue. My Nvidia game profile also says TRAINZ 2004 and I have never installed 2004 on this computer. Just 06, 09, and recently 2010. Still running WIN XP, SP3 with no issues and 170.xx Nvidia drivers.

First thing I am the administrator on this computer. Second the reason why nVidia loads up Trainz 2004 profile is because all trainz versions (2006, 2009, 2010) have the same name "trainz.exe" thats why it loads 2004 how ever the delete key is grayed out for profiles installed by nVidia. I think thats the issue, the only time i get better perfomance is if i change SLI to Single GPU. I can't get SLI to work with trainz because of nVidia's profile. "Force alternate frame rendering 1 & 2" don't work and I can't set it to SLI rendering.

Sometime back, I remember reading in one of the forums that TRAINZ does not support SLI use. If that is the case, then you are better off disabling SLI for TRAINZ.

It doesn't matter if your computer administrator. You still have to right click and give Trainz administrative rights to the computer. If not then Windows will not allow parts of Trainz to install or run. In fact, I have heard some people say that any program should be installed as administrator.
