Has anyone seen this sort of thing......

This is what I'm getting with any new download to TS2010 (or TS2009 sp4). Its only happened since I upgraded to the Nvidia GTX 560.

Original, (and similar) items already downloaded and installed in the game are fine!??????

Its just any new stuff installed seems to have this problem.

I have unistalled and re-installed TRS 2010 twice and to a different place but still the same problem.

If I download and install new items to TS12.... they are fine!!!!!

It beats me - Any ideas?

Clam,

Thank you very much. Now that you mention it, I very very vaguely remembersomething about this... but I've never had the problem before!

Either the settings got changed somehow... or more likely my old GTX 260 didn’t mind the compressed textures!

Anyhow, items deleted and re-downloaded are now OK.

There’s always something new to learn in Trainz!!!!

Thanks again,

Boat, (Mike)

Hardware compression issues can affect any card with TS2009 and TS2010 (and sometimes TS12) and is usually easily fixed using my tutorial (which Malc has kindly posted a link to).

Hi Shane,

Yes, thanks for all that info. I've used your site before.

Its just weird that I've never experienced this problem before. I've been running both TS 2009 and 10 (mainly 10) for ages without any problem. I don't think I've even looked at those tick-box options before. Never had a need to till I put the GTX560 in.

The problem was confused as I first noticed it after I had been deleting and installing some other stuff, a day or two after I'd put the new graphics card in.... So it took a while to isolate what was happening. I thought it was an install issue at first or maybe something to do with Windows 7, (but I blame that for most things!!!)

Anyway, sorted now.

Thanks again,

Mike

It's one of those issues that does not always crop up. Normally it only crops up with content downloaded from the Download Station or installed from .CDP files, as the issue crops up during the commit process. I've seen it with a few cards, and I've seen it mentioned with other cards. The reason it happens (to my knowledge) is because the graphics card does not always have the required ability to compress the textures using it's GPU, and as a result the colours get garbled.

I know that Windows 7 can cause issues with Trainz (like the run-as-admin one).

GeForce GT540M as well has this problem

This problem is not limited to a GTX560. My new Dell XPS15 laptop with a Nvidia GeForce GT540M had the same problem when I installed TS2010 on it on Saturday. Spent Sunday removing, reinstalling, and patching TS2010 to no avail. Old laptop with GT330M did not have this issue. The wierd thing is that the GT540M is much more capable a GPU than the GT330M.

I was close to posting the problem on this forum when I came across this thread.

I unclicked the checkbox, loaded a few .cdp files on the new laptop, did a test route, and things look fine.

Thanks boat for the question and thanks clam1952, shaneturner, and kamran for the solution.

It's OK - it is a fairly common problem that I decided to sort out the solution for (which is on my tutorial site, or my blog)
