Place names

Hello, I was just wondering what methods people use to create place names in Trainz Surveyor.

Here is what I do:

Get an map of the geographical area I'm creating, (normally UK themed for me) then get a family member to give me a page number and grid referance from there.

This gets me a real place name appropriate to the region, and one that sounds like it was me that created it, unless it turns up any major place names/landmarks :hehe:

This can get boring though and annoys my family, any other methods greatly appreciated :)

There are plenty of Markov chain based name generators for various settings and contexts, largely because this kind of thing comes up with RPG (tabletop mostly) geeks, and Markov chains are very geeky.

Some examples:

For english town names:

For american town names:

Eastern-European-sounding (or D&D places) country names (mostly):

I have used local street/road names for my 'station modules' - ie. layouts with track and station buildings etc. but no scenery (on the DS).
