Pics of my new route. ATSF.

jadebullet

might be back?
OK first off is the Oil refinary that I'm working on for my ATSF route. It is set in Colorado, but is not based off of any actual route. Yes I know that a few of my curves in the yard are a little on the sharp side. The route is set in 1995.

Anyway criticism is highly needed because I don't know that much about Refinaries.

Also tips on how to texture it would be VERY appriciated.

The refinary produces products for both Sunoco and Texaco. The trains bring tanker loads of crude oil to the refinary. The crude is refined and then loaded for transport.

Ok here are the pics.

The first pic is of the entire facility so far.

The second is a pic of the filling station. Each station can fill nine 40ft tank cars at the same time. There are two tracks per station and each station fills up a different product. The products are, 10W-50 lube oil, Gasoline, and Diesel fuel.

The next series of pics are of an ATSF train dropping off a cut of empty tankers.

The refinary uses an EX-SP SW-1500 for loading the cars.

Tankers moved to the loading area.

June 15, 1997: My brother, my friend and I headed out to the local refinery to take some pictures of some trains pulling runs of tankers from the plant. With cameras in hand, we each took position. We only had to wait about fifteen minutes before we heard the sound of a diesel engine pulling a huge load up a grade. As the train came into view we realized that it wasn't a tanker train but a BNSF piggyback train. ATSF and BN had merged over the winter and we were surprised to see the orange and green of a BNSF engine. It was the first one that we had actually seen.
The train was crawling slowly up the grade so we had plenty of time to set up our shots. My brother got this beautiful shot as the train pulled past him. It was also odd to see a SW1500 in the mix of engines.

A few seconds later I snapped this shot. You can see the refinary in the distance.

I then rode my mountain bike up the line and snapped this shot before riding even further up the line to take the next shot. I was out of breath by the time I took my third pic and was grateful that the train was still crawling along at around 10 miles per hour.

Meanwhile, my brother had ridden up to an old siding where a pair of broken down geeps had been abandoned. He took this first shot while my friend managed to get the second shot as the train approched the broken engines.

Soon afterwards he took this picture.

Still out of breath, I had managed to make it to the abandoned siding and managed to take these two beautiful pics while my friend moved down the line.

My friend had run down the track to the junction of the siding. He quickly lined up the shot and took these three shots. He wanted to get the derail in the shot and managed to do a great job.

My brother had also gotten into position and got this final shot.

We decide to leave soon after because we were exhausted from the chase.

Now about the route:
I still do not have the refinery textured because I am not sure what textures would work for a refinery, so any suggestions would be appriciated. Also, comments are encouraged, especially tips and criticism. (don't worry, I wont attack you if you give me criticism.) Also, upon doing more research, I have bumped the year of the route up to 1997, during the transition between ATSF, and BN to BNSF.

Thanks guys. I'm having a lot of fun making this route. Thanks for the links. I hope that my story wasn't too cheesy, but I thought that I would give it a try.

Na....It was pretty good....Ya have to start some where

I'm nowhere near as good as you are WCL. You are the king of stories. You are actually where I got the idea of putting a story in from.

LOL....Thanks.....Yeah....I guess I am pretty good at making them up....Thanks again

Really, I was actually worried that it wasn't good enough, at least in the yards anyway. I have no real experience with what a railyard is supposed to truely look like, shapewise, how big it is, ect. just had pics to go off of and my memory.

Thanks btw. Plus, yours is actually pretty good freightcar. It looks nice.

Will do.

BTW just wondering. Is it normal for the mainline to run through the center of an oil refinery or should I have it be a branchline? And if it should be a branchline, should I stop the track at the refinary or have it go further. I'm still VERY new at this and am not too knowledgeable about alot of tracklaying procedures when it comes to making the route realistic.

Your route.....Do what ya want with it.....Other wise if ppl tell ya what to do ya won't learn stuff :hehe:......Guess and test and see what the out come will be on when ya do do it

PS...Ya should put your pix here:

Hello everyone. I have been working very hard, and my work has hopefully paid off. I have been working on a open pit iron mine. The ore is dug out of the giant pit and brought to the top by Yuklids(sp?). The Yukes then dump the ore into a pit where the ore is sorted from the overburden. The ore is loaded into trucks and railcars and sent to refinaries where they are turned into iron pellets. The overburden is spread by a giant conveyor and can be used for construction.

Well, enough lecturing. Here are the pics, but first, a few questions/comments. If anyone knows of some buildings that would be good to add to the loading area, please let me know. Also, with the pit, do you guys think that it's too cluttered? Also, are my textures good enough in the pit?

As always, criticism and comments are greatly appriciated. And also, if anyone is mean with their criticism, don't whine about it. I really don't care how mean people are about it, they normally have good suggestions that are just delivered poorly and malicious comments don't bother me.

Okay, finally the pictures.

First some pics of the pit itself.

Now a pic of the overburden spreader.

And now for pics of the yard. (does this look realistic? I don't know much aobut yard layouts.)

One more pic to go.

continued...

Here is a pic of a BNSF ore train. By the way, i need help. I love these hoppers but when I go to set them to take in Iron ore product, it doesn't appear. How do I get them to take Iron Ore product.

Thanks again.
