PEVSoft Tools Downloads

Hi again PEV,

It would be a great loss if your tools were suddenly made unavailable.

Hopefully you do sort out a solution, and feel free to PM me if you do decide to take my offer as stated above.

Shane

Hello PEV,

I would never be able to praise your work as it deserves: without the aid of your software the community would not have been able to use most older content in current versions of Trainz. I also strongly believe that the impact of the changes introduced in the last releases would have been far more traumatic than it has been. I think that without your software many of us would still be playing TRS2006.

Is it possible to upload it to the DLS, so as to somehow tie the download to the possession of a registered copy of Trainz?

Last, but not least, I wish to thank you for your kindness and patience every time I bothered you with some issue I was unable to solve. A lot of thanks from Italy, from me and from the whole TrainZItalia community.

I agree with the others, Peter. This is sad news and I do understand why you are doing this.

I wonder if TPR would be willing to host your tools, or perhaps even Jointed Rail?

Both of these sites require an account of some sort to download items. This wouldn't necessarily deter the real pirates, but it would slow down the flood to the free download warez sites.

I agree it would be nice if N3V chimed in here too because without your nice little utilities, we wouldn't have had the content clean up project up to where we are with that today. I alone like Craig, Shane, and many others, have used your utilities to fix our own downloaded content. This wold be a real shame to see these things disappear.

All the best,

John

This is terrible Peter.

Can we see a list of offending websites? Maybe we could flood them with petitions/demands that they stop distributing your programs.

Hi Peter --

Your tools have been a god-send - truly the Swiss Army Knife that can do everything that has ever been required.

I hope that you manage to sort it all out and continue your good work.

Phil

I too wish to voice my sadness at this announcement... without your tools, a great many piece of content would languish unusable.... I couldn't do half of what I do without them.

Is it someone is downloading your programs and re uploading them elsewhere, or are they linking to the downloads on your page? If it is the latter, there is a way to block downloads from an external site.

OMG,

In conjunction with Andi, and Peter I have expended ~20,000 hours over a six year period in developing, testing and using AssetX, PEVTools and TARDIS. Along the way I have built the TARDIS suite of repair scripts to automate most of the work. In the process I have nearly reached Repair Heaven with according to Content Manager some 98% of the 200,000 assets in my TAD , gleaned from DLS and external websites plus the builtins, now repaired or upversioned to work at TB 3.5/3.6 compliance. The remainder are mostly garbage and unsalvageable. I still have a heavy dose of testing to do to ensure they are visible and work in Surveyor, Railyard and Driver. CM doesn't guarantee that. But I can say with a great deal of confidence that nearly all legacy assets are useable in TS12, and if required upversioned to TB 3.5/3.6.

With about 95% of the work complete I had intended to release TARDIS 3.6 shortly after TS12 SP1 release, whenever that might be, and certainly before 1 Sep 12 when the next N3V Trainz Life-Cycle policy milestone is due.

PEV has given me tremendous support both in time and expertise. All this work with so much at stake is now in jeopardy because of the mindless actions of others. I hope Peter can find a solution to his current misfortune, and that the whole Trainz Community including me (over 500,000 strong now with iPAD) can then heave a great sigh of relief.

From what I've noticed, they are likely to be linking directly to the downloads, which gives me a thought.

Changing the address slightly on the download files may be enough for the offending sites to take the downloads down as the links will no longer be valid.

Maintaining PEVSoft Downloads

I'm glad most of you understand where I am coming from on this.

Now that I have calmed down a bit, I am thinking how I can keep my downloads available to you all.

There are a couple of ways for me to do this. So don't think that I will leave every one in the lurch.

Hopefully I will have something up and running in a few days.

This mess has really come at a bad time; just when I am about to release the TS12 upgrade for AssetX. This is all the more complex because I have to keep Andi06 in the loop as well.

The one thing that I cannot keep is my existing download page. There are hundreds of pages on the dud websites linking to that page. So it's gone!!

Please bear with me for a few days until I can sort all this out.

Don't worry - if most users are like me, patience should prevail (if I've said that right)

It's concerning though as I could well be affected next.

Hopefully you do sort it out in one way or another - we appreciate how important your tools are in the world of Trainz.

Shane

As mentioned before, the best security measure for you is to work out a deal where you can host your software on Auran's secure server (HTTPS), hopefully within PlanetAuran so that a Trainz login is required.

Hey - Well done Pete. I only recently started to use your tools but Ive already learned how valuable they are. Im really pleased to hear that you hare beginning to find away around the problem :)

Thank you for reconsidering...your tools are the BEST!

Have you thought about leaving your original download page up, linking to bogus EXE files? :hehe: hehe.

I really hope that you can find a solution to keeping your software available, Peter. As you already know, I feel that my work has moved up to a different level since I started using it, and I'm sure that there are many more who could benefit in the future (particularly Gmax users, effectively excluded from content creation for current and future Trainz versions without your exporter).*

Best wishes: looking forward to eventual good news....

Peter,

I hope that you can work something out. Your PEV Tools certainly helped me in my attempts at content repair and updating.

Good luck,

Joe

yup looks as if it is linked to a lot of web sites, which one is the real one btw if you have put it back up? thanks.
