Payware: My #1 complaint

You guys got any good conspiracy theories? Hey...I know some of you do! Come on...let's hear 'em...:D

Cheers,
Fred

Have you noticed when James Arness died they ran a whole "Gunsmoke retrospective", but when Peter Faulk died....nothing. Zip. Nada.
Most people would shrug this off, but if you look closer you'll enter a dangerous world of blackmail, deceit, and a sur:eek:prising link to the Zapruder film...

Hmmmmm...yeah...I see what you mean. I've always wondered about that myself. :D

Sites like Jointed Rail & RRMods have some great freeware, true, but their payware is fantastic! Not that I've used payware (I'm 16 & broke), but WHY MUST WE PAY FOR TRAINZ CONTENT!? Wasn't it enough to pay for the built-in content itself?! I mean, really! Their locomotives are some of the best looking & could certainly fill gaps in my operations-based aspiration! But I have to settle for staring at pictures of the payware content or (in Jointed Rail's case) waiting until they "retire" (discontinued) and made freeware. Who agrees that payware should be made free?

Look, I can't say I don't agree with you. But here is the catch: Trainz and people who make content is a buisness. People do make a living doing this stuff. So there is good reason to charge for HOURS and HOURS of work. This takes a sh*t load of time to make the mesh, let alone paint it prototypicaly. I re-skin. If I don't know the prototype, I will usually research the paint scheem and stuff like that. That can take DAYS and if not WEEKS to do. So I can also say I disagree with you. I have my opinions about this stuff. I personaly think that people should SHARE THEIR CONTENT if asked instead of being snobs yelling at gimmie-pigs. But that is not the main point. Point is this, it is very simple: if people want to make an asset, let 'em; if they want people to pay for it, that is fine by me. There are exceptions though. If the quality is not up to par, then I will not pay for it. If I think the price is too much, I will not buy it.

In your case you are talking about JointedRail and RRmods. These are two very respected and very reasonably priced vendors to the Trainz world. Personly I would like to see more passenger equiptment from them but we'll just have to wait on that. I honestly cannot see why you would get mad at someone making an honest living doing something they (hopefuly) love to do;something they are good at. So I think you need to do what you want with your money. It's ok if you don't want payware or don't want to buy it. However, I will say this: the two companies you are talking about are very excelent at what they make. They have vary reasonable prices for their products. Hell, JointedRail runs a "Product of the Week" SALE. So again, know wjat you say before you say it.

Blimey Ed, I've seen every episode of Columbo about a zillion times, do we really need to see all the repeats again......

I can see that this thread has gone extremely off topic......

Mike cannot imagine this come's from you.
Of the record it was not Obama who screwed up but the credit card companies bankers, insurers, multi nationals, oil guys in short Bush his family and friends they run the US for years and made it to what it became.

Many US citizens had no money now even less that is a mess Obama had to clean up.

I feel very sorry for the guy and his team and I am not a politician and never will be.

What i write here is no joke but reality.

my 2 bath on this one and please no bad feelings or rants after this one

Roy:o

Oh shoot ! Why did you have to go that far and mention names. We were having so much fun without having to get serious.

Anyway Roy...... I couldn't disagree with you more. The obama nation has done more harm to this country than I care to discuss right now.

Therefore, I give you the return of the OBAMA RUNAWAY BOXCARE !! Even more true today than when I released it in the summer of 2009. It is running out of control with no brakes !!!!!!!! In 3D no less :D

Come on everyone! I thought Mike's post was pretty funny. One of the problems in the US, and the world for that matter, is we have lost our sense of humor about these things. I think it has been well established where my sympathies lie. I know Mike fairly well, at least as well as you can know someone on the Internet, and I think it's safe to say that we don't agree about some things. That doesn't change the fact that I respect him and consider him a friend. Lighten up people. Good one, Mike! :D

Cheers,
Fred

So wheres the OP? I want to hear if he has learnt anything of his views on the world have changed since reading this thread, or hes just ignored it to become ignorant..

Goto learn somewhere though.
I infact found Trainz 1.3 through pirating it back in 2001, then bought it after support from this great community (which of course has changed and evolved a lot since) and now I own just about every Trainz version and purchase payware regularly if I want it that much... everyone has the opportunity to learn and change their ways, unless ignorance is present.

Sad news, Ron. As the article says, people not learning cursive could prevent them from understanding historic documents which were written in cursive. The article also mentions how people were asking when the typewriter came out if people would handwrite any more. Well, the typewriter was invented well over a century ago, a yes it did become popular, but as far as I know it did not kill handwriting. Then computers came out and pretty much have killed the typewriter, and now with texting on cellular telephones and the social networking sites Facebook and Twitter, should it figure that the end of handwriting could be nearer?

In the old days, things were simple yet complicated and built to last, and people were fine with them because such things were all that they knew. Nowadays you could possibly be seen as a freak or odd one for using rotary-dial telephones or using a typewriter, and possibly even for not having a cell phone. ;)

Now, instead of people writing letters to friends and family, they type it on their computers and/or cell phones and deliver it either by email or by Facebook. And it has only been since the past couple of years or so that out of nowhere Facebook and Twitter (yes, just those two sites) have out of nowhere risen to be the world's deep obsession right alongside the cell phone. Nowadays it seems that almost every one and his brother (and sister, and mother, and father, and...you get the picture ) uses one of those sites. And youngsters have been jumping on that band wagon just as much as they have on the cell-phone band wagon, along with companies and you name it.

Oh, and one final thing on the subject of English: Ever noticed how long ago they formatted initialisms like this: "U. S. A." (yes, including the spaces), and even used periods/full-stops at the ends of titles, headings, etc. (e. g. the period at the end of the original name of the New York Times: "New York Daily Times."). Now we see initialisms shortened to this ("USA") (how ugly and easy to confuse with a word in capitals), and periods/full-stops at the ends of titles/headings are long, long gone, actually since the late 18th-early 19th centuries. Yea, some will cheer on "progress", while others like me see the value and superiority of some of the ways of the past. With the World Health Organisation's announcement of cell-phone radiation being potentially carcenogenic to humans, I will probably not get any cell phones like everyone else, and instead maybe hold on to my good old home phones and pocket change for a payphone (if there will even be any left out there in the future).

Yea, alright, I will get off of the off-topic rant and soapbox now; I guess that post by Ron opened the door wide for me to rant. :o

Regards.

You're allowed to rant. It's better than the politics that fell into this very amusing thread that has become a great pile of waffles. Hey. I just noticed something, we seem to twinge a little be once in awhile on the "old" forum ways of waffling on good stuff, while sneaking back and forth between that and the topics. :)

I read that too regarding cell phones. Only recently did I get one, and could care less about it, really. I got it only because work paid for it, and that's where I use it. No one else has the number, and I never use it ofr personal use, besides I can't even see the keys on it to text or send messages, so that function is out completely. Anyway, there are days when I forget I have it and put in on. I really hate them and consider them an unnecessary evil because of the dangers and deaths they have caused on the roads and the railroads.

Ron is right. That article is scary sad. There is so much history that will be lost because people won't be able to read the cursive handwriting. What's interesting is recently I came across some beautifully written letters sent between my great grand parents. The handwriting was so elaborate and beautiful, and puts to shame even what we were taught in school! Yet I could still read it!

Let's face it, with controlled news networks, and search engines that manage to usually find everything but what you're looking for, history is something that will get lost. I could rant on about the search engines, but I won't waste the space.

In the past I used to like to write, but due to some neurological issues, hand writing documents has become painful and painfully slow. For me typing is so much faster, besides the Backspace and Delete keys are my best friends.

Anyway, let's bring this topic back on topic for at least a few minutes... Where is the original poster? He's probably here as a registered user, posted this topic to get the forums up in a snit, and is now watching the results from the sidelines - sort of what my bro used to do when he was younger!

I think the OP was really Rupert Murdoch, texting on his cell phone, which was uplinked to his private satellite network. Or maybe not...:D

John

He'll be busy for a while.
He sold his food stamps and used the money for some PAYWARE.

Really All

There have been several reports about the direction of this thread currently. My better judgment tells me to close it, but I will leave that decision to future posters. On topic posts are welcome, but political comments, funny or not, don't play well here. As all can see, they usually take threads completely off topic quickly.

My question to you would be why on earth would you expect someone to take hours, days, months, sometimes years creating a detailed model and be required to give it to you, why would you expect that?

You didn't buy the content when you bought the simulation, you purchased a license for the simulation. I know that maybe a hard distinction for you to draw but it's true.

I create scenery items as I'm getting into learning all the ins and outs of 3DS Max and I'm giving them away for free. Now I can tell you from first-hand experience that creating models in 3DS Max sometimes can be a detailed process.

I've not attempted (nor will I attempt in any foreseeable future) creating a piece of rolling stock or a locomotive that would be worthy of the quality of JointedRail's rolling stock or locomotives, but if I did I wouldn't give them away for free.

I used to hold the same opinion of payware believe it or not, up until 2009 I had never bought any, I always considered that if I couldn't find it on the DLS I didn't need it. But I broke down and bought a locomotive from JointedRail and it opened my eyes. It was far more detailed than anything offered for free, and I've come to appreciate their work both free and payware for what it is, highly detailed and superbly crafted models for this simulation.

Having started to create assets myself in 3DS Max that appreciation has grown tremendously.

My suggestion to you if you're 16 and broke, maybe find a part-time job like mowing lawns or paper route or something because at $10 per locomotive, compared to actual model railroad locomotives they're quite the bargain…

This is very true. I lived in an area that didn't have many options for work as well, that's where the car washing and lawn mowing came into play. If you do have physical limitations, then allow me to apologize. Didn't quite think of that.... I think my point was that sometimes you have to work hard to get what you want.

@Mike ;) In all fairness I have a rock yard now... LOL I'm quickly finding out I would rather mow the grass vs. weed the rocks.

Thanks,

Mike

I hadn't thought of this as well, and I may have misspoke about the lawnmowing or paper route.

But I do live in an area where desert landscaping is the norm and Mike Roundup works wonders:hehe:

There used to be an old story about a guy from back East who was looking for the perfect place to live, so he put all his belongings in the back of his pickup truck and headed west, when he got to Yuma he knew he had found the perfect place because the first person he met pointed at his snowblower and lawnmower in the back of the truck and said "what are those?"
