From Subs to Unders.
Why do we actually pay for the DLS anyway? I was just free for 2011 to find trains. Now I even pay to see the results. Why do people in general that Auran pay for the DLS? Auran earned much money from their Railroad simulators so why pay. Pay? Well, I thought not.

PS: English is bad.

The DLS is hosted on servers which cost money to run and maintain. The money made from the sales of the game no doubt are used for the development of new software. The free DLS downloads are available if you are patient but you can not expect the download to start as soon as you click the start button. You may have to clisk it many times until you are lucky enough to be able to connect but if you cant be othered to wait a First Class Ticket is reaonably cheap

Actually he is using a nonsupported version of Trainz. Auran/N3V and not "Auran" discontinued download support for 2006 and 2004 and UTC etc. without a first-class ticket.

Now some may not like it, but like every software company they can't be expected to support every legacy version to the end of time. Microsoft doesn't, Symantec doesn't, I can't think of a single software company that supports every version (legacy and all) continually.

Now as the Trainz community grows (which it has) it cost more and more money to host the DLS. So a decision had to be made and I think they made the right one. Because if you look at that EULA, the DLS is a service not a right, they can take it away at any time and there isn't a whole lot anybody can do about it.

I choose to do my part by buying a first-class ticket even though I really don't use the DLS that much. I host all my content on my own site. But I look at it is giving back a little bit to the community so that the DLS can continue.

Unfortunately a good number of the community doesn't feel the same way.

No problem, everyone has a second language deficit...

 You bought a license to use the program, you play by the rules.

If you want help, we can help you. :D

Trainz RULES!

Ooops. I missed the fact that he/she is a 2006 user :o

All downloads are freeware on the DLS, but only if you are using a supported version of Trainz (Trainz Classics or later).

Trainz-Beginners question: Where can i find the freeware downloads on the DLS?

In order to use the DLS freely, you have to be using a supported version of the software. At this time, that is Trainz classics 1,2 and 3 all the way up to TS12 anything earlier than that is now considered a non-supported product simply because of its age.

You can still download stuff from the DLS for those older versions and there is still massive amounts of stuff on the DLS designed for the older versions, but without having a supported version of the software the only way to access it would be to buy a first-class ticket.

That was put in place either right before the end of the year or right after, and it was a decision that had to be made mainly because there were thousands if not hundreds of thousands of users sticking with Trainz 2006 or earlier, accessing the DLS day and night for free. In other words Auran/N3V was bleeding red ink.

So to alleviate that, they're making users of those old versions either buy a newer version of the game to continue to get it for free or purchase a first-class ticket to help support the DLS.

I don't wish to appear disrespectful but with what is it over 80,000, or is it 100,000 items available on servers how can anyone expect this is maintained at no cost?? It is a little unfair to think that they appear free by magic. It's like people up here in Scotland that demand Scottish Water stay in public hands as iwater is "free" (!). It isn't and where do they think the dams, pipes, filtering costs get covered!

Personally I think it is great that a company producing an A1 simulator programme provides such a service at at reasonable cost for a hobby over a year. Some pay an awful lot more out annually going out for meals or a pint or two, etc. Do they get them for zilch?!

Buying an FCT...

is certainly the best value for my $ that I have spent this year. If you use Trainz on a regular basis, it's just a no-brainer.

For the same money, today I had lunch and 2 beers (I believe they were pints, but Americans do not take the word "pint" as seriously as the Brits do, where a pint darn well better be a pint)(<--caveat: 1 pint US =.83267 pints UK, according to Google), including tip, at a pub today. Guess which expenditure will payoff in the long run?

If you bought TRS2006 five years ago ... you are long overdue to pay the piper.

If you bought TRS2006 reciently, at a huge discont rate (pennies on the dollar) ... you really need to pay the piper.

I bought TRS2006 in 2007 for $ 14.95 USD and have gotten 4 years of playing Trainz from it.

I really should buy TS12 ... as I really should pay the piper.

I will be purchasing another yearly FCT in 30 days, when mine expires ... so I can play TRS2006 (it is good for all after the fact newer purchased versions).

I'm not gonna be a cheapskate no more ... I'm gonna shell out the "Bucks" to support the hard working employees that need to get paid at N3VR (Auran).

I cut lawns for a living ... and pay no income tax. :p I kans' afford to pay Trainz !

Big Deal ... @ $22 USD a year ...
Whoooooooooo Wooooo !
