NZ pics

They use Monaro cop cars over there.

No just standard but I couldn't resist getting this one made for me.
They do have a heavely modified WRX for the national park area state highway 1.

New drivable version, just need to work on the engine sounds.

The base model was from google sketchup 3d warehouse, if you can supply a 3d file he is really fast. He sent me the picture 2 days after sending him the file.

Hi Jamie, welcome to the forum. The catenary in those pics were a bit of everything, I think the main type I used there was called DL&W... or something similar. They are on the DLS. The Waterloo Y shaped ones were simply the result of hard work! Those things took forever to create. The Taita span stuff is just a couple of wooden poles and the 'bald' range of catenary, built in since at least TRS06. Anyway, I've since changed the DL&W stuff to Fender's Wellington-specific catenary, found on the Trainzone website (trainzone.co.nz). You'll want to check out that website as he puts all of his rollingstock creations on there as well. He's just done the DL class and I believe there's a Matangi on the horizon for Wellington.

Hope that helps.

Ryan

(P.S. - I'm young so I don't care, but the "oldies" around these forums like grammer to be correct when posting. Trust me, it'll save you grief ;) )
Hi Ryan Jamie again Ive got the older looking catenarys and the dls now.If it were not for you i would not of found them.;) Do you know how you get pics up on to this site because you would like my NZ Trainz a.:hehe:

DL to Otaki

Evening all

This morning, the first train to Otaki departed WLG. Kiwirail also used the opportunity to show off the new DL loco on its first trip to the capital.

Passing the soon-to-be-closed Muri station. A real shame as that was a good train watching location

ryanmcc201103190012.jpg

Powering up along the Waikanae straight. The DL has no problems getting the Overlander consist up to 100kph.

Around the Te Horo curves with the Tararua Range overlooking proceedings

Flying through Te Horo loop

Over the 293m Otaki River bridge

Dropping into Otaki yard, passing the ballast pit

Arrived at Otaki. I need to find a large lettered sign for the verandah.

The line continues to the 73kp (start of the Forest Lakes curves) at the moment. Departing town and heading north

The land north of the SH1 overbridge is covered in lush, green grass. Very nice.

Great Shots there Ryan, Fender's DL looks great!

Are they closing Muri now? How long untill Kenepuru gets the flick as well?

I heard that the Matangi units have to much of a gap between them and the platforms.

I've heard April 30 for Muri, (officially) for the reason you stated, although the rumours are that it is that it's more to do with not wanting to spend money for the 30 prople who use the station a day, and to get the journey time from Waikanae to Wellington under 60 minutes. I haven't heard anything on Kenepuru.

What are those trains called over there?? You know the ones with a DC class loco hauling carriages that are driven from the end as well?

Hi Col,

I think that's the new Auckland Commuter trains, don't know if they have a name as such, I'll try to find out.

Cheers,

If my memory serves me correctly, those were once British Rail MkII carriages regauged to 42" and rebuilt for Auckland suburban service - and they're designed for 'push-pull' operation (hence the loco at the rear end).

But yeah, I'm pretty sure they haven't been given any official name other than 'push-pull sets' (but then, I'm in Australia so any information I have is scanty at best) ;)

Another name is the SA/SD sets. As the MkII carriages are classified as S class with variations depending on their allocation i.e S Class is the Capital Conncetion and Scenic Stock, SW are used on the Waiarapa Trains and SE cars are used on the push-pull trains in Wellington.

These cars currently are being used in this configuration with a DC loco at the front followed by 3-6 SA cars followed by a SD car, which is a car with a cab on the end.

They will probably be in use untill the electrification in Auckland
