NYCTA! pics!

EL Stations

Just started work on elevated stations to use for my NYCTA route. BStyles has been away for awhile, so I've taken it upon myself to build these stations with textures he has given me. The following is a list of the stations going to be made. Just to let everyone know, the Brighton line is the only line that will have "customized" elevated stations. The rest of the el lines will use this package of stations, but there will be different objects (exits, etc) that you can swap in and out for a different look. I just felt it was too much to model several el stations each for Astoria, Flushing, West End, Culver, Pelham, Jerome, Broadway Bronx, Jamaica, Myrtle, Rockaways, Livonia, etc etc. Too much work, and who wants to sift through 30+ stations when something under a dozen will do?

So here's the list:

1 Track El
2T Island/2T Side/2T Double Side (for the terminals on the (1)(2)(4)(5)(6))
3T Island/3T Side/3T Island 2--for (7) Mets/Willets Point
4T Island/4T Side--for (7) 111 St.

Objects (so far):
Platform Exit (at the ends, seen on the (7) line)
Mid-Platform Exit
New Subway Maps
New Exit signs with a down arrow

The garbage cans and benches from the subway set can be used here.

Any suggestions/comments are welcome.

EL Pics

Just some eye candy of the recently completed NYCTA EL stations:

NYCTAEL.jpg

1T and 2T are on the top row, 3T on the middle, and 4T on the bottom. I know the ends look a little short, I'm in the process of lengthening them from 5m to 10m long as we speak!

Enjoy!

P.S. Like everything else, gotta test it on my route--so far no kinks, so no definite release date yet, BUT---I will promise that you will not have to wait six months like with the subway stations. I'm starting to get a hang of this station building stuff :p

They look awesome. one question though....where on the system is there a 4 track elevated express or local station? And will these be able to be used on curved sections like west farms sq on the (2)(5) or 174th also on the (2)(5) etc.....

4T Express: Brighton Beach, Ocean Pkwy. I know those have been modeled by me already, but what if someone wants to make their own fictional line? A 4T island is a must.

4T Local: 111 St on the Flushing line is the only one on the system. Also, I included it in case those fictional developers wanted one on their route.

And will these be able to be used on curved sections like west farms sq on the (2)(5) or 174th also on the (2)(5) etc.....

Of course. They're splines. they are able to be curved to fit anything. They're in 5m sections, so don't attempt too crazy of turns.

i'm currently trying to build a yard for my Fictional (5) route but it never come's out right i was wondering if anybody could give me some good tips on how to make one?

Are you building the yard over by Nereid Avenue. I have a great tip for building and costructing your routes to give it a bit more realism. When I first started using trainz 2 years ago, I first started building routes coming from my own imagination. About a year or a little over a year ago, I started learning about using track maps, google earth, and youtube videos as a reference. That helped a bit but for the most part, some things were still off and not completely correct which made working on some routes quite boring. About 2 months ago, I learned about the 1km basemaps, and ever since, my tri state area project looks fantastic. The pics of that project are in one of the threads around here. So now, I have several windows open consisting of a certain track map, a youtube video of an area as a referance, and google earth along with some music in the background.

That's great! If I felt immensely creative (and if I finally spent the time to learn how to model), I would try and recreate a bit of London, notably the area around the Thames and above (sorry Wimbledon peeps). And I'd probably do a ton of subway systems besides just lu. I was thinking about NYCTA but it's clear that we have some excellent creators already ;)
Eric :D
But yeah...thanks for those tips! I'm sure other people were helped by that too! :p

Eric--if you're looking for tips in modelling--and a way to do it a lot faster--PM me, I have something you might like. :D

1km basemaps? Could you link us? That sounds fantastic. I use Peter Dougherty's "Tracks of the NYC Subways", several official NYCTA "Single Line Signal Diagrams" (still trying to get more), Google Earth, NYC Subway Resource site--the whole nine yards, so like you, I have a ton of windows open. I haven't quite gotten around to youtube videos yet. Also, today I just discovered that some of the (1) line stations in the Bronx have off-set platforms. Is this true or just a glitch by Google Earth? Also JFK's Manhattan-bound platform seems to go about 208' feet further south than the Rockaways-platform. Confirmation?

And---onto route news:
Here is the current progress map--Brighton is pretty much finished, Fulton St line is done (the remaining portion is the Pitkin/Liberty St line), and Flushing and Jamaica are getting close to the end.

Because of measurement anomalies in my route, I am rebuilding all of Downtown Brooklyn and the 4 Av line, mainly because my (A) line doesn't meet up with the (J)(L)(Z) at East NY like it's supposed to. It shouldn't be that bad to be honest.

Also, replacing the EL stations on my route with my own newly created ones--so far only Flushing needs them, as I completed Jamaica yesterday.

Lastly, is anyone else getting an error with Jeff Morris updated 'bridge01' spline (aka the Manhattan Bridge). I got his 'bridge02' update (WillyB) just fine, but the MannyB is having an ! in CM. These are place-holders until I finish my WillyB and ExpressLine3Train finishes his Manhattan Bridge.

Here are some of the links that helped me.

http://www.g0akh.f2s.com/Trainz/Basemap_tutorial.html

Here is a link to a thread on basemaps
http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=35921&highlight=basemap+a

There are other sources of information for basemaps but I find this to be one of the simplest ways of learning about the basemaps. If you need any help, I'll gladly assist you with the basemaps. Just one quick tip before messing with the basemaps. Before you edit the basemaps, be sure to clone them. I prefer resizing the 1km basemaps by 1024x1024 with Gimp. I hope these two links help you with them. At first when I used the basemaps, I was confused with them for about a week or two, and then from there on, I just quickly grasped the concept.

NYCTA Custom Station Kit

Hey All,

Just wanted to announce the release of my NYCTA Custom Station Kit to allow all of you to build your own subway stations! You don't have to use them exclusively for NYCTA, you can use them however you'd like.

Included in the kit are 30+ objects for you to mix and match and come up with literally ANY layout, ANY design, ANY color scheme you'd like.

This should save time and patience (and frustration) for those who have requested to clone/reskin my stations. Now you don't have to (or you can if you'd like).

The package includes:
Island & Side Platform splines (5m)
Trackside Wall & Platform Wall splines (3m)
Single Platform Beam splines (5m)
Double Platform Beam splines (5m)
Station roof splines (5m)--these are in 4m, 8m, 12m & 16m widths to span virtually any number of tracks. I only went up to 16m, so for anything wider, you'll just have to use more.
Track Pillar Spline (5m)
Track Pillar Spline (5m) with Roof (the roof only spans 8m, enough for one track on both sides. Again--for wider stations, I suggest using multiples of these splines to achieve the desired effect.

Also, I've included the subway station garbage can, bench and exit stairs, in case anybody needs them and hasn't already downloaded the .cdp. I figure it's easier to combine all of the items necessary to create your own station.

I hope you all really enjoy this kit and I would LOVE to see some screenshots of what your imagination can come up with! Content creation has become a labor of love for me, and it feels WONDERFUL giving back to the community.

EDIT: Link taken down to fix asset errors with the trackside walls. It will be republished shortly.

Ace, you've just guaranteed another uncountable amount of nights where I'm in Trainz and I never end up going to bed. Thank you. :'( :hehe:

Excited to see what I can do with this stuff!

Oh, I forgot to add:

The platforms are 1.4m high, so that's what you'll have to set your height value at for the station beams and the platform walls. The trackside walls and pillars are 4.5m already, so they will line up with the beams and such.

Acelejalde could you please tell me the name of the platforms you used. the columns, and the ground texture you used to make the ballast plus the overhead station sign you used, the black one that says grand central.

thanks

Nice pics Andres! but also, little tip, you don't need to quote all those pictures, we can just click on the arrow beside the quoted post if we really want to see it :hehe: Anyway, Acelejalde such impressive content! You three really have been doing some excellent work contentwise! And jeffmorris I can't wait to try out your route when my TS12 comes in the mail (eventually.... =.=)

thanks

I used:
Platforms: "Platform Tarmac Modern with Edging Stones" kuid:179051:1297 or kuid:179051:1324. I cannot remember which it is--oddly they both have the same name on the DLS.
Yellow Fence: "Fence Coaster" (built-in)
Columns: "AJS Subsurface Columns Red" kuid:134105:3260:1
The track ballast ground texture is called "Ballast DGrey" kuid:98193:10646
The overhead sign is called "Subway Hanging Sign New" and is made by Magicland; kuid:58843:37018

But--aside from the fence, ground texture and hanging sign, why not use my platforms to create more intricate stations? :D I plan on re-doing the 42 St Shuttle stations using my station kit.

Nice pics Andres! but also, little tip, you don't need to quote all those pictures, we can just click on the arrow beside the quoted post if we really want to see it :hehe: Anyway, Acelejalde such impressive content! Thanks Eric! To be frank, the only thing that separates subpar content from truly excellent content is the dedication/patience of the creator, and really good textures. I've seen so/so content re-skinned to look truly impressive.

Also, why not go for a digital download, and then save the files on a DVD for future use, if needed for a re-install? It's what I used for TS09/10. I suppose it depends on the speed of your internet connection, but I've always felt a digital download is the way to go---quicker since most of us Trainzers are really impatient (yours truly included!) :p

Also, I'm taking a week or two off from NYCTA content/route building to focus on BART. Plus, I'm awaiting three books worth of single-line signal diagrams for the entire NYCTA subway system to arrive in the mail, so until then, I won't resume the project. I'm not at liberty to say who or where I found these books, but it's the culmination of a two year search and I couldn't be happier!

Also, I read a thread somewhere on the boards that answers the questions for those of you who have been asking about making my 2010 route available in 2009---the scripting and such of 2010 is that so you cannot back-date to 2009. I know they're similar, but most of the aspects of a basic 2010 route are only available for that version of the game. I've tried backdating several times for you guys, and I still get the same "error no map selected" message when trying to load it. So, when I get the signal diagrams, I may consider re-doing the entire layout in TS2009, so that you guys can enjoy it as well. Unfortunately, I do not feel like producing the full route for any version prior to 2009, so if you have TC 1 & 2, you won't be able to play the route. Like I've said prior, ALL of the content I'm creating is for 04 and above--just not the physical route itself. It was a sacrifice I had to make, and since 2006 is buggy and doesn't work on either of my machines, I'm going with 09 and above--I hope you all understand. But, if you have 04/06/TC, use my content and impress me with your creations! :D

Now, I'm going to eagerly await the mailman and maybe bust out some content! :hehe:
