IND Connection via 53 St
Hi Jeff,
I do not have any information on any types of track radii. Usually what I do is eyeball it using Peter Dougherty's maps. I have an entire list of the NYCTA Station Chaining Codes that I've made, so I use the distances between the stations (especially on curves), and try to get it as accurate as possible. If you need help on the 6 Av/8 Av connections via 53 St, I can supply the chaining information below. Remember, NYCTA is chained in hundreds of feet, so a reading of "1241" means 124,100 feet from the zero. I say this, only because if the end of station A's platform is "356", and the beginning of station B's platform is "371", then 371 - 356 = 15, but since we're dealing in hundreds of feet, the actual distance between the two is 1,500 feet.
Below is the information that I think will be most helpful to you, and the relevant stations:
IND 8 Avenue Line:
59 St/Columbus Circle- South End- 1118; North End- 1124
50 St/8 Av (Upper Level): South- 1095; North- 1102
50 St/8 Av (Lower Level): South- 1092; North- 1099
IND 6 Avenue Line:
57 St/6 Av- South End- 1090; North-1096
Rockefeller Center- South End- 1068; North End- 1074
Connection between the two:
7 Av/53 St: (6 Av Tracks)- West End- 1094; East End- 1088. (Chaining decreases because it's going towards the IND Zero at W4)
7 Av/53 St: (8 Av Tracks)- West End- 1110; East End- 1116. (Chaining increases because it's going away from the IND Zero at W4)
*6 Av & 8 Av distances are different, because of the lengths of the connections from both 50 St lower level and from 59 St. Between 59 St & 7 Av/53, the distance is 2,400 feet. The distance between the lower level of 50 St and 7 Av/53 St is 1,100 feet.
If you need any clarifications, let me know.
Hope that helps!
