Northern Arizona Route

@ James Moody, at less than a year into this I’ve misunderstood some things that I thought were TS Mac issues. Most of the time it’s simply that I’m still in the learning process with Trainz. I look forward to trying to reskin. As Scott has pointed out the DEM issue has to do with third party software being Windows only. For now I’m satisfied with my work around system for mapping.

I agree- great work on the power plant! Let me know how the reskinning thing works out for you. I'm curious, and I'd like to give up on my two-world solution. I have my route constructed in TransDEM to keep me busy for a LONG time to come, and I'd certainly like to consider switching back to a Mac only world. If I ever want to do another route, I can always fire up Windows, build a new DEM and bring it back into the Mac if everything else works OK.

Wow simply outstanding work on the power plant Gordon, Keep it up mate.
Cheers Mick.:)
Thanks for the compliment Mick.

texture work is just eye catching really beautiful
Thanks kamran. I’m still amazed at all the built in textures I have to work with.

Thats really sweet
Thanks BNSF650, I see a lot of BNSF coal trains passing through the Twin Cities from out west. I’m glad I’m able to do some coal unit trains on this route.

I love the power plant, very well done!
Thanks Euphod, I’m very pleased with the power plant. I’m going to try to move on and not get lost in all the details I could keep adding. I do however, need some substation truss structures and powerlines that will fill up a lot of the empty space in front.

Thanks Scott, Just with track I’ve already placed I will be busy for a while. Winslow is going to be a quite a project for me. As far as reskinning, I might try sooner than later. I would like to make some custom signs for the route. If I can do that it might be a simple thing to start with.

Love that last pic, it's my screen background for this week.

I've just published (on the DLS) a set of sandstone boulders that might fit somewhere on this layout. It occurred to me that the color match with your ground textures might be reasonably good. I just don't know if sandstone features naturally in Arizona or not. Anyway, if you find them useful, it's all to the good.

Thanks Eaglefan and kamran.

Thanks for the compliment Deane; the area I’m doing is on the Colorado Plateau so the geology is similar to the Grand Canyon. There’s lots of sandstone, limestone and quite a few other types of rock. I just got the boulders. They look very good and fit in well with the terrain colors on my route.
Thank you for that and all the great content you’ve shared with the Trainz community,
Gordon
Actually the boulders are great! I didn’t have all the sizes. I’m going to work up a little area with some new rock textures from JVC. I’ll post a screenshot when I’m finished.

Deane, here is a shot I put together with your boulders mixed with some of the new JVC desert content. The boulders look incredible and blend very well with the textures.
Gordon

Oh cool! The color match is just about perfect (I wasn't aware of the JVC ground textures, so that's a lucky coincidence). Thanks for trying them out.

@Ed - in response to your comment in my boulders thread, I Googled on "boulder holders" and all I got was pictures of Katy Perry..:hehe:

Bolder boulders

Gordon,

What a great match with that excellent terrain of yours.

This is not a criticism, but a suggestion that you could perhaps exploit one of the design features which I understand Deane had designed into these assets.

By using the roll (Shift/rotate) function, some of the strata on the boulders could perhaps line up slightly differently. It's unlikely that these bits of rock would have eroded and tumbled to their resting place with their strata lines in perfect geological alignment.

The trick will also allow multiple reuse of the same asset whilst giving each a totally different look. Very versatile!

Cheers

(Now going back to counting rivets!)
;)

Thank you Euphod.

Deane, I’m going to find these very useful on this route. I even tried making a sandstone arch with them. I like the way that they blend in.

Thanks Casper, I appreciate the tip. I spent some more time on this and did some rotating on some of the boulders.

I even tried making a sandstone arch with them.

Yes, the 7m boulder was designed with an arch in mind. Just place 2 of them facing each other.

Regarding rotation, it's a little bit frustrating that we can't roll objects in the 2 vertical planes, only in one. For better or worse, I elected to have them roll around their long horizontal axes, which means you only tilt the sandstone layers (relative to the horizontal plane) if you view the boulders "end-on".

Thanks again Euphod, I’m having fun doing a few nature scenes. This one will be seen from the tracks.

Deane, this is the arch I made with the boulders. I’m going to be doing a small canyon called Canyon Diablo with a large bridge built by the Santa Fe. The color and texture of these boulders is perfect for Canyon Diablo.

Are you going through Winslow?

It's on the DLS if you're interested.;)
