Jamie, I appreciate the comments on my use of textures. I can’t list them all because I use many. I have 3 groups of textures for copy and paste on large areas. The one I’ll call my main texture I’ll show in these shots. The other two are just darker shades of brown for mountains and terrain off in the distance. Even though the overall look of this route stays pretty consistent I try to keep changing each terrain feature by using different color textures.

sorry for including the pic. Thats pure awesomeness , where did you get those ties?Brad, that GN SD 7 or9? looks very good! Did you reskin that? I’m picky about the tone of GN Pullman green. Yours colors look good there. I do have the JR F7s and the SD 45. IMO the colors on JR’s GN Hustle Muscle are spot on! At some point I’ll take a break from this ATSF/ BNSF desert route and do some Great Northern on my Montana route. As long as I’m off topic on my own thread, here is a shot I did awhile back of some GN F7s. At this time Mac users cannot do any reskins. I Photoshopped the yellow ladder grabs to black. (After this back to the desert)
Beautiful pics !! Just wanted to point out that it appears the trailers are facing the wrong way at the warehouse.

I don't think so. It looks like he has a lot of work to be done. Patience is key.
@montanawestern: in answer to your question, those are called Laying Ties. There
are 3 groups and you should have them in TS 10

Thanks Mick, I’ve wanted to put an airplane in somewhere. Now I’ve done “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” on this route.Outstanding work Gordon, That pic would have to be the best so far ( Till you post the next one..lol ) Keep up the great work.

Thanks Joe, I don’t want to rush this. Actually I’m starting to get a little burnt out on this section of the route. I might take a break from this for a while. I’m thinking about doing some practice boards for the Flagstaff area. I’ll see if I can find an efficient way to do the dense stands of pines and keep the route running smoothly.

Take all the time you need, last time a friend asked me about a route being finished I told him, These things dont happen over night! Keep it up, I am loving these right now..... It makes me want to race down to arizona, and watch BNSF trains, and buy more, JR payware, thats how awesome it is!

I did some practice boards for the Flagstaff area. I’ve been thinking about it since I started this route. I really wanted to find out what pines I’ll use and figure out some colors for the area. The San Francisco peaks I did here are really scaled down. When I do this area for real I’ll have to make a decision how tall to make the peaks. I’m very happy with the colors and types of pines I’m using. (‘Only a few speed trees near the tracks)
This will eventually get erased as it is on some empty boards just before what will become Winslow. It’s got me wanting to start the work on the western part of this route. I’m finally using USGS maps for reference. My intention is to scale the miles down to make this project more manageable.

-Again, those are some awesome shots. Also saw you won a screenshot competition in the Auran newsletter, congrats!
-But you do have the right idea, if your looking for performance in your route, use some nice speed trees up front, around the track, maybe up to 1000-1500 meters then start mixing with the cardboard style for the back ground!
