Northeast Corridor Newport News, VA to Boston-South Station, MA (1024x 768 pixels)

Give me a pic name or adress of your school so I can do a really detailed area of it. Yes, I am going through Alexandria.

How would you replace it with a transparent one? Like what do you type into the script?

Hi Davis
Your route is looking good. But I would consider swapping those default trees with something more up to date. Also try multimap.com for areal views and check out the bird's eye view. I use it on all my prototypical routes. Good luck! I hope you finish.

ex-railwayman,
Yes, I will be doing the whole route. It is a little over 650 miles, I believe, I would have to check though.

Thanks

Davis

650 miles, you won't be back on the forum again then 'til at least year 2012, just in time for the London Olympics......:hehe:

I assume you will be releasing this in stages then rather than the whole map in one go then, just think of the megabyte size when it's merged together..........

Good Luck anyway young man...

You find the texture with the wires on it, open it in photoshop or the GIMP or whatever you usually use, and erase all the wires.

At least, that should work.

Actually, leave the catenary texture alone, and find the alpha texture that goes with it and make the entire alpha texture black in color. That will render the wires completely transparent and hence not visible.

When I ever go into the config files and delete the lines the space where they were turns up balck or white like so:

Pretty good, but the metro tracks on the far left look a bit choppy...

You can do it.

Question is...there's many threads about NEC projects that haven't been finished, can we trust you, strench707, to stay with this project till the end? Were counting on you.

Apple hit the nail on the head. I've been here not many years but enough to know a few things. A lot of great look NEC routes pop up, yours included, but I've seen them all go downhill because the creator gets "Bored" or what not. Yours is one of the top one's i have seen and it would be a shame to see it go.
Happy Railrunning!

I have faith that it will get finished he knows what if feels like to hope for content and not see it come to pass;)

Very Glad to hear it Strench. I will gurarentee that if you complete this route to the best of your abilities, like i know you can. There will be almost no competion for creating anything better.

Kepp up the good work!

Happy Railrunning!

Haha, good work Davis! I've gotten my NEC going again(just for the fun of it). Don't stop though, but if you do, stop somewhere near Baltimore. It's ok if its not done all the way. DC, BAL, PHL, NWK, NYP, NH, BOS are pretty dense, so its not likely that it can all fit. It's possible though!

As you know I have been working on the scenery by backtrack south from New Carollton. I am pleased to announce that I have crossed the Anacostia into DC so Union Station is going to be worked on next.

Just thought I would give a little update.

Hello all,

I have decided now that I am getting close to Union station (scenery-wise) I would have to make a decision about the diverging MARC Camden and Brunswick branches considering that they all fan out of Union Station.

Well I have made up my mind. Upon completing the scenery of Union Station I will lay track and scenery for the leads to each of the formentioned branches. I will include the bypass from the bypass around DC to the mainline to chicago (Brunswick). That occurs about 5 miles down the line and after the connection I will place two portals on each of the lines, so during a scenario you can have MARC commuter trains running back and forth between Union Station and the portals to give a more realistic feel.

Afterwards I will continue heading South with scenery and stop about a mile north of Newport News, VA whose coal staging yard that the station is ajacent needs to be re-done (that should take no time at all). So in a year when I get back down there I will re-do it and then go back up to New Carollton and continure trackage and scenery to Baltimore.

After IO finish the whole thing (which I WILL!) then I will go back and do the MARC branches. Then maybe the Springfield, MA shuttle branch but considering I have only done about 11/650+ miles of scenery I will try to think alittle more conservatively. :)

Thanks and more screenies on friday!

NEC

Are you using a topographicly correct DEM...or is it a flat baseboard route ? Basemaps (A-Z) & (0-9) are great on flat baseboards, when you superimpose Google Earth images and Topo Map images to make the route prototypicaly correct. Your the King of the NEC !

cascaderailroad,

It is not DEM correct. However, I have been using some referneces of all kinds to get every hill and underpass and depth exactly right. Sometimes those programs can skew it and I am looking for a little more flexibility. Mind you not to leave out details but to have a better basic work enviroment so I can later build up around it. Truth be told, it is really my prefernece to do it this way.
