New Utility from myself (shaneturner12) - PC Information Application

The fixes have been tested, and the new version is now uploaded.

Thankyou to all those who are taking their time to test my software.

Great! 'Save as File' now appends the .RTF. The Clipboard data is there also (I like the confirmation notice) but there are no CR/LF functions separating it.In the RTF file, it is all run together BUT when I "Paste" from the text file I pasted the Clipboard to, I get:

Blimey you are quick Shane! Was getting an exception and no drives listed was going to post then you posted another two updates latest of which has cleared the problem. Paste is now working as well.

Okay. I ran the app, clicked the 'Copy to Clipboard' and then opened a "New Document.txt" and Pasted the results into it. The text was all run together with no CR/LF. When I did a 'Copy' from that file, then Pasted it into my post, the CR/LF's magically came back. I have a feeling that perhaps there are CR's but no LF's (or visa-versa) and that's what's causing the disparity. When I create long strings of data and want them to be on separate lines I always append a "VBCRLF" to each string. I don't know if you're doing that so I don't want to insult you; but that's what I do.

It may be a non-problem on other systems as you say.

Bill

vbCRLF is being used, but it seems to not be working in some applications.

I have tested it in Word so far, and it appears fine there.

Shane

Yup. I did the same. It appears that Notepad (the normal responder for .rtf files) handles vbCRLF differently than the full Word does. I'd call it a non-problem.

Very good work, Shane.

Bill

Thankyou for all the comments given so far - that's why I like this forum.

Shane

EDIT: Just had a thought - next time someone's not sure on the relevant specs of their system, my program can help them out.

It can also help with diagnosis of black texture issues, permission issues, and even CM not loading issues.

If you add a small browser module, you could also toss in some networking "config" issues and connection issues to Auran servers. The .NET framework has functions pretty much the same as 'IPCONFIG', and the "path/traceroute" commands. :) It just never stops, does it? "If you give a mouse a cookie..."

Bill

True - I will look into that, although it may take a short while to add that feature.

I've used some of the networking features in .NET, and they are very useful.

Hopefully, it will be able to help identify some of the common issues.

Shane

An update...

I have just uploaded an updated version, which now includes a connection check ability.

Shane

Looking good Shane.

It should help identify where the issue is if a user says they cannot access the DLS using Content Manager.

Shane

EDIT: I've got to go offline now, but I will be back on tomorrow to check up on any program-related issues/comments etc.

Should make it a lot easier for those who have no idea how to check these things for themselves, good job Shane.

Thankyou Malc - like my tutorial website, my program should help users out when it comes to some of the common issues, and can provide information for not-so-common ones.

I will be back online tomorrow to check for any further comments etc.

Shane

Well done Shane, I'm surprised this wasn't thought of long ago, the connection checker is just a great idea. You should drop a post about it in the DLS section too.

PC Information Application

Hi Shane

At about 4:40 pm EST Norton Utilities removed your application as a security threat, before I could do anything with it.
