That would make the tool - well - not exactly for purpose.

That may be possible for another program perhaps, but at the moment, I'm dealing with this one.

I would love to incorporate some odd ideas, but it would mean I would have to rename the tool as well.

CPU-Z; It is secure and it works. A bunch of my buddies use it. Latest version is 1.58, includes support for AMD Bulldozers.

I have had a look at the software, but in my opinion it is too complex for the newbies on this forum.

Also, it is tricky or impossible to copy information from the program you mentioned.

Cpu-z is for a different purpose really and doesn't have network diagnostics either, it's fine for power users, I use it along with a dozen or so other geek type tools, unfortunately it's information overload for users who have no idea what goes on under the lid in a PC. Shane is using the KISS approach.

Not all servers allow ICMP packets these days, so a time out when running a Tracert is not actually proof that the server is or is not timing out. If there is a problem you should get a Destination net unreachable message.

Not helped by this I found on the subject.

The Windows tracert.exe program uses 92 byte ICMP packets to conduct its trace. Sadly this is virtually identical to the still-virulent Nachi Worm and this type of packet is specifically blocked on all of our border routers, making the tracert.exe program unusable.

I did receive destination unreachables. I didn't know about the byte-size chunks used in the trace. This is probably why the Nachi Worm writers used that size. They could sneak in as an ping!

Another helpful built-in utility is the NSLookup. It's great for looking up information on a website or DNS server because you can see if the name resolves. When Auran servers were having problems, NSLookup could not always find them, so there must of been some kind of up-down issues happening.

It's OK - strangely enough, my tool can do something similar to NSLookup, alongside the ping tests.

I am still welcoming reasonable requests for features, but I cannot guarantee to add every one of them, in order to keep the program simple.

MINOR UPDATE

I have made a fairly minor update to my application.

Change List:
Message now appears whilst it is gathering information
Program now shows post-formatted capacities for drives
New information shown under Operating System information
Miscellaneous improvements (mainly improving the spacing between items)

As long as forum members are happy enough with me developing this product, then I'm happy enough to keep maintaining and improving it.

Working well here, additionally just tested it on an old Athlon XP PC with an AGP card and fairly ancient ide drives. No problems. So should be fine for very low spec systems.

That's good to know - due to the nature of the tool, I am trying to get it to be usable on as many systems as possible (as long as they can support .NET Framework 2.0 and are Windows 2000 or later)

That's good - I did request a re-evaluation of my site, and if any users do encounter Norton removing the program, I have a way of dealing with it, but I will need some information regarding what it detected it as, which version, which scanning method etc.

CRITICAL UPDATE

An issue has been identified with the processor information, where it is displaying incorrectly.

This has now been fixed.

Users will need to redownload my program to get the correct results.

Just a note to say thanks for your new utility.

Do you have a recommendation for the minimum REASONABLE computer and video card for Trainz? I've found the minimum and recommended platforms for TS2009, but I can't find the equivalent for TS 2010 or the new 12.

It might be cool if your app indicated a 'grade' or pass/fail mark on the suitability of the tested PC for trainz.
