New to Trainz 12 (...Only Yesterday!) - From Steam, Problem finding my DLC

Hi Everyone,

I hope its ok to post this question here! I'm new to trainz and this forum.

Yesterday I purchased Trainz 12 + the LMS Coronation DLC from Steam, but i'm having real trouble trying to find the Coronation.

I registered an account with Auran yesterday which was fine, and registered my CD key to my account. Steam tells me that my DLC will be installed and uninstalled along with my Trainz 12 purchase, but its just nowhere to be seen.

I can see that there are few good tutorials which can be found on this forum, I'm going to spend some time today to try and learn my way around the game to try and figure everything out. Upon first starting the game yesterday, I noticed the Engine shed on the main menu to look at all of your available stock, but my Princess coronation isn't there :(

I've been a Railworks user for quite some time - but everything to do with trainz is a little different! So I have some learning to do :-D

I don't know if anyone might have come across this issue regarding Trainz 12 and DLC on steam, I hope someone has some info on where I might be going wrong (although I like using Steam - purchasing it from Steam might be where I went wrong!)

In the meantime I'll continue looking around the forum for an answer!

Thanks very much for your time.

Neil

Welcome to the forums.

My guess is that your version has probably updated itself to Service Pack 1 - this can be checked by looking for the Get New Content button on the Launcher.

If this is the case, you will need to register your addon pack serial numbers with N3V (Planet Auran > Serial Number) - select the correct product from the Product dropdown menu. Once this is done, the content should download automatically on the next launch of the game.

Hi Shane - thank you very much.

I did wonder this last night - I registered my CD key for my copy of Trainz 12 on to my auran account, and I noticed from the Drop down menu a place to enter my key code for the Coronation Scot DLC - But the thing is, Steam seems to only have a key code for my copy of Trainz, but there's no key code for the additional DLC that I purchased along with the game at the same time. I tried the same key code for the coronation DLC, but it doesn't work.

Perhaps I'll have to send an email through to steam and see if they can send me an additional key code for the Coronation DLC.

Ok thank you Shane, I've already done it. I've never had to email steam before - not sure how quick they'll reply.

It would seem very silly for them to supply DLC for Trainz, and then not supply you with a key code to actually use it!

I'd like to suggest if you continue with Trainz to NOT buy through Steam.

Thanks for the info - I just thought i'd try the Duchess DLC as well from Simulator Central, it Installed fine. I hope I can sort it out and get a key without too much trouble, its a pain when things like this happen.

Also it would seem that because I've bought it through steam, I have the latest build which has a few issues? Its seems very laggy - lots of scenery popping up all over the place slowly, and taking a long time to render - I use Train Simulator 2013 and Rise of Flight with no issues with my graphics set pretty high on both, and both run smoothly. Although i've not got around to adjusting anything yet - In comparison to those two sims (especially rise of flight) i'm a little surprised its like this - I thought my system would handle it with ease.

Afraid it looks like you have ended up with Service Pack 1, which has at the moment a few teething problems, symptoms of which you have just pretty much described. Steam doesn't give you any option, it just installs it, the N3V version you can hold off on patching until they sort it out, which they are apparently / hopefully doing at present. Pre SP1 is pretty much OK although it has a few niggles, which SP1 sorted out, however it's added more and I think worse problems. Main ones being lag stutter and the now you see it now you don't rendering. Consequently I'm still using the pre-patched version which I kept a backup of.

Generally you should find in most cases DirectX performance is far better than OpenGL, however if on Vista or higher you may need to have DirectX9c installed alongside DX10 /11. MS left out a couple of required files, so DX10 /11 are not fully DX9 compatible on all graphics cards, some seem OK though.

Make sure you don't have any AV or other anti-malware programs doing any on access scans on the Trainz folder as it is constantly loading stuff from disk and the scanning from some of the more paranoid AV programs slow it down causing lag and stuttering.

Hi Malc - thanks for the info. I've taken what you've said and actually got it running quite well this afternoon, ...I can see this taking up even more of my free time after work! :-D
