New Thread, Same old problem... can anyone give me guidance?

Thanks for everyone's input but I'm still having problems. It just seems like EVERY asset I try to download has missing dependancies. I will say that the simpler rolling stock files usually work. As for searching out the KUIDs, I did try that on Google but I can see it will be very work intensive and I don't have that kind of time (I'll still try anyway). Just seems to me that something is wrong when EVERY locomotive I try to download ends up incomplete. I do not feel I was having this problem a few months ago. Is there a time of day when downloading works better (i.e. sort of like a file sharing setup)? Also, is the old black screen download station any better than the content manager or do they work the same?

If anyone can help me I would be eternally grateful.

I'm trying to get some PRR steam engines for my NEC routes so if anyone has some they can just send me I would also be eternally grateful.

Unfortunately it's not permitted to distribute items without obtaining the creators permission first or if stated you can in the items licence which is very rare.
Searching or asking on here is the only way.

Not really any quiet time of day for the DLS as this is a world wide operation so no quiet time.

No the black pages work differently.

I find the Old DLS pages very time consuming requiring several clicks find and then download and then repeat it all to find the dependencies, when it can be done in a couple using content manager, however others seem to prefer it, each to their own.

Pardon me for joining the conversation late, but do you have a First Class Ticket? That alone will make a world of difference when downloading. If you do, have you activated it? That's something many members tend to overlook the first time. PRR steam has mostly been a Payware commodity, although there are a few around that aren't.

Locomotives in general tend to have many dependencies, and most of them are found in sites off the DLS.

Yes, I do have the FCT and I do believe it is activated or at least it gives me by July 2012 expiration date on one of the screens. How can I know for sure that it is activated?

If your download speed is around 3.75 kb/s or less, it's probably not activated. If it's around 375 kb/s, then it is; a 100x factor in speed. That, of course, will also depend on your internet connection, but if you're on DSL or better, you should be able to get 375 kb/s.

Would download speed have anything to do with missing dependancies? I recently moved to a more rural area where internet is only available via a sateliite dish. The service therefore is significantly slower compared to my old house which had a DSL. Just thinking it may explain why I didn't seem to have as many of these issues before.

One more question: If there a way to contact the creator of any particular asset and ask them directly for the missing KUIDs or just the whole file. I was going to try that but the profile does not have an email address.

You can PM most creators, so long as they are active on here, many are not and may have moved on to other things.

Hi,

I find that CMP does not show all items on the DLS, I think it is because the boxes for any version older than TRS2006 are not ticked by default so CMP does not look for anything older than TRS2006.

I find the best way to download an item is, open CMP then minimise it, go to the black pages (download station) find the item you want then go to "download (helper)" this means you require a download helper. That is exactly what CMP is so left click on "download" then maximise CMP and your item will be in the download panel in CMP, click "start" and it will begin to download and will find all dependencies that are on the DLS. I use this method all the time because I have more than one version of trainz on my computer, so long as I open the correct version of CMP the item goes to the correct version of Trainz.

Im a little bit offtopic, but i have seen this statement so many times...let's be real, if i give all my content to someone else, nobody will know, and nobody will suffer from that -> i am talking only about the FREE content.

There are so many forums with missing kuids threads, and i am sure nobody ever cares about the fact that it is not permitted to distribute items without the creators permission.

If i have 200 missing kuids from a route...what would that mean to someone willing to send them me, to ask for permission for at least 50 creators...come on...that is absolutely impossible and it makes absolutely no sense. He will just make a .cdp with them and upload it somewhere...and i can assure you that the creators will not get sick or broke because of that...I also have some content on DLS and other third party websites, and i really don't care if someone will share on Messenger or e-mail my free content. I do not lose absolutely anything from that.

And there are so many 3rd party sites with content that it's impossible to find by myself all the objects. And also, as i can see, Download Station has some problems, i am not the only one who had problems with it and still has, there are tons of threads with this subject, so this is definetly not a solution...

So, as long as the item is free, i dont see why is it a problem to share it without the authors consent...If you don't want your item to be shared, keep it private.

Oh, i do not agree with those who make websites and publish someone else's content...that it's not fair, but to give it to someone who needs it...i don't see a problem.

Integrity is demonstrated by what you do when no one else is watching. We all have to make our choices in life, and live with the consequences. People can justify the smallest and the largest transgressions, it's a slippery slope.

Yes the DLS can at the moment, miss putting all dependencies in some DL's
First, Make a filter Location/local and add the date installed. Save as a filter(today) and you are ready to go. When your DL is finished click on today and check for missing deps. Right click on any and then click view. You will find some with the DL tag. Drag to helper. If any show the arrow down icon, click and add latest versiod to helper. If more than one, you can hold ctl and use multiple clicks. Ifind this system nearly always gets all deps.
