New SD90MAC-H (Hi Res)

Size in MB or KB? Poly count?

Probably the most important question here. The highest LOD is 35K polys. I think the LOD goes something like 35,22,15,5 including the trucks. It probably could have been optimized more, but I was getting bored of rebuilding it four times over. It's not for a slow video card, but my A64 3200+, 6800GT (256MB) and 1GB RAM didn't stutter with all five of those in the scene at once, and there are much better cards and processors out there now. I thought of adding even more details, but I didn't want it to get too far out of hand. My C36-7 was 23K polys, which was what I planned this for, but I kept adding things, especially in the truck area. They are 13K polys at the highest LOD, but I think the detail there adds a lot to it.

I'll try to cover as much of the other questions as I can, considering its after midnight here:

It's not on the DLS yet. That could take a little while longer, especially if I add a horn sound. Maybe a couple of more weeks?

No other liverys planned. UP was the only one that had these. This is the 6000 hp unit. I think the one on the Trainz Luvr site is an SD9043MAC (4300 hp). The only real difference is the shape of the engine compartment. There were only 20 or 21 of these built. There were another 40 or so of the SD90MAC - H2 built and CP Rail had a couple of those. At the time I started this I couldn't find a plan for the H2 cab, so I went with the H model.

I don't know how to make the front door open. What it does have, aside from LOD, is dynamic running numbers, bump mapping, and spinning fans. I'll upload both a clean and weathered version. It will be TRS2006 content only. It started out as TRS2004 content, but the fans wouldn't spin, along with some other problems. It sat there for months without much being done on it because of that. When I installed TRS2006 and imported it over, all of a sudden everything worked, so it will stay TRS2006.

As far as creating any more, I'm not sure how may I have left in me. My next project is to re-skin and bump map my old U50C. It doesn't look like it belongs on the same track with this one and my C36-7. Then I'm thinking maybe an SD70Ace. More railroads have that, so I might consider making another skin for that one if it is made.

Great Work again 6900!...

 Yes, greater resolution with this one, although CSXSD60 did a lot of work, he's the one who incorporated the pant.-front door...
And, the SD80, with ten motor compartment doors, still has a different rear end construction.

You can find a great quality SD70ACe at www.ustrainz.com (direct link http://www.ustrainz.com/products/locomotives/sp_freeware/EMD_SD70ACe.php )
as well as many other locomotives: http://www.ustrainz.com/products/locomotives/sp_freeware/SP_Freeware.php

...yes, we have those...bananas...

 Yes, there are two SD70M-2 and SD70ace locomotives offered from two websites, and I have tons of them, and run them, however neither website offers the correct interior.
That puts them anywhere but on the point.

I found one of those SD70Ace's last night. I guess I better change plans then. Although these I made just use the stock DD40X interior. I've never made an interior, and if I did, I'd be probably talking another year.

I'll probably make an SD9043MAC after this (minor changes). Then and SD80MAC (a few more minor changes to the 9043). Then I'll think of maybe doing the SD90MAC - H2. I just recently got the plan for the SD70Ace, and the cabs nearly the same on both. There would also have to be some major changes to the trucks on that one, so it would be a bit of work. All of that after I reskin the U50C, most likely. Although it probably depends on what mood I'm in at the time. From looking around yesterday, it looks like pretty much everything has been made by someone, somewhere else already, besides those.

I'd cry 'ya to take a second look...

 The default cab is ok, at least the windscreen is correct. I can live with that, the rear window view shows a UP carbody!
The SD70Mac, has an upright controller, the SD90H, H-2, and SD9043MAC have desktops...I keep up with such things.
There are World of Trainz locomotives, with the correct SD70 verticle controller, however they are proprietary, and therefore cannot be used elsewhere.

The SD90H-2

A rectangular window...how'd that get there...a rebuild?

Yesterday I was actually poking around to see if I could find some pictures of a SD90MAC-H cab. I found one or two similar to the ones you showed here for the 9043, which if the rest of the loco is any indication, is probably virtually the same as the -H model. I was just wondering if just one photo is enough to make a cab from. I was assuming I needed photos covering every corner of the cab for 360 degrees. I'm not 100% sure I want to take a stab at making one, but if I had the necessary photos the odds would go up. I'm lucky if I see one of these go by when I go on vacation, let alone actually being able to get inside one to be able to take pictures of every detail.

As to when it would be released. I'm hoping next week. I'm playing around with using 007007's SD90MAC horn sound which I found on the DLS, I'm just not sure if its loud enough. It seems to get drowned out a lot by the engine noise unless you zoom in right next to the horn. Most of the horns I've heard you could hear coming from a mile away.
