New, expanded manual

Have bought earlier versions of Trainz but never got very far because the manual was pretty sketchy and mostly about building railroads, not running them, which is my interest. The new expanded manual advertised in the Collectors Edition really got my attention, but paying about an extra $100 beyond the download version of Trainz 12 seemed a pretty expensive way to go. Is there any possibility of purchasing a downloadable version of just the expanded manual (for, I hope, a lot less than $100)? Thanks. Guy

Have you looked at the manual that is built into TRAINZ 06? It is quite comprehensive.

Looking for expanded manual

Yes, what I was hoping to find was the new expanded 250+ page manual. Failing that, is there some place I can download that 2006 manual? I must have had that at one time since I purchased the 2006 edition, but it has long since disappeared. Guy

The 2006 manual was a pdf on the CD. If you still have 2006 installed it's in the Docs/manuals_cd/manuals directory (or just seach for TRS2006_Manual.pdf).

The 'standard' editions of TS12 include a digital (PDF) copy of the expanded manual. This can be accessed by clicking on the 'manual' icon on the launcher screen.

Previously, TRS2006 also contained a similar manual, accessed the same way.

At the risk of receiving a through flogging, I would respectfully point out that many manufacturers of electronic equipment and other appliances are now placing their users' manuals online for anyone to download (including current models). I know that in many cases this has been the deciding factor for me when choosing between cameras, a/v receivers, etc. Perhaps those of us currently unconvinced about buying TS12 (and all of the inevitable work in upgrading, moving and renaming assets) might possibly be tipped over the edge upon reading about all of the subtle improvements contained therein and not mentioned in the (rather sparse) advertising copy...

Well the PDF included with the TS12 digital download is 242 pages.

It only cost 50 bucks and you get the game for free:hehe:

I agree. If you want to sell software you should make the instruction on how to use it as readily available as possible.

Which is exactly why we include the manual along with the product.

The 2006 manual is available here (http://www.replacementdocs.com/download.php?view.7350). How to get other manuals available here (http://homepage.mac.com/doug56/MBC/page73.html).

Interestingly, the first link is most likely in violation of our copyright, and the second link doesn't work.

Interesting indeed. I have not tried downloading the 2006 manual from the site mentioned as I have my own copy of 2009 and the 2006 manual is included there. As for the link not working I responded from my iPad and that seems to have created the problem. So here is the link again: http://homepage.mac.com/doug56/MBC/ I am curious to see if it now works as I tried to correct it inthe original post without success. Also think you missed the point Lamont was trying to make. Why would you want to restrict the availability of the software's instructions in any way? If Replacementdoc has made the manual available in it's original form you should be congratulating them. The manuals for 2009 and 2010 are available from Auran (N3V) online so why not 2006 and 2012? I'm sorry, but we don't congratulate people who copy our IPs without permission. The manual is our IP, and is part of a product which costs real money. Why do you assume that we would be happy that part of our product is given away for free?

My point is simply that they are our manuals and it is our decision as to whether we make them available for free. Maybe we would be happy to do that, certainly we have done it for some products. Having other people take that decision out of our hands is simply piracy.

As it stands, anybody who buys TS12 will get a free copy of the manual, in either hardcopy or digital format. So for legitimate TS12 users, there is absolutely no need to have a copy of the manual distributed online.

cheers,

chris

Amen, right on, ditto ditto ditto:D

Yes, but…

* Yes, but…

Yes, let me clear up any misunderstanding. I do not condone illegal acquisition or use of intellectual property, so I have removed the link to the online source of the Trainz 2006 manual from my website, even though it appears Trainz 2006 is no longer available from Auran (N3V) as it is not listed at their online store webpage. For those wishing to acquire the Trainz 2006 manual you can still buy it bundled with Trainz 2010.

But, it is still puzzling why Auran (N3V) makes it so difficult for the beginner to access instructions (manuals) for their programs. For Trainz 2009 and Trainz 2010 one has to discover that the Trainz 2006 manual is indeed included under the “Extras” part of the software. As Euphod has pointed out the abridged version of the Trainz 2012 manual is available online from Auran (N3V), but from the Trainz iPad webpage not from the Trainz 2012 webpage. And as Guy has pointed out there is no reason to believe that anyone purchasing the standard edition of Trainz 2012 will get the “expanded” version of the manual. I haven’t been able to find any reference to this in the promotional material (webpages) for Trainz 2012. Thanks Zec for indicating, for the first time I think, that the expanded manual is bundled with the software. However, I am not sure those contemplating buying the software will find this revelation here. Better to say “expanded manual included” on the Trainz 2012 promotional web pages. So, I guess Guy the answer to your question, and mine, and probably many others, is, you just have to buy the program and you will get the expanded manual for free. Or, as mrscsi has put it, perhaps you are buying the manual and you get the program for free.

Chris,

How about us poor sods that bought Trainz for Mac??? :'( The promise of a future manual (sorry but 58 pages is a joke) does me no good at all. I'm looking for the down-and-dirty on Surveyor techniques etc. I have my TS06 manual for now, but it's silly to have to use such an out-of-date document.

Since TFM seems to be based on TS10, how about getting that full manual to those of us who have supported you in this endeavour?

Cheers,

I bought Trainz 2012 via Steam. Is there a way of getting the printed manual, as flicking between Trainz and the pdf manual is very cumbersome?

A Manuel ? You mean to tell me after all this time, that there is a Manuel ? ! ! !

Through trial and error, it took me a whole year, to figger' out that I could lay track on a baseboard. :hehe:

Badge's ... We don't need no steenking' Badges !

Manual???

Expanded Manual???

Does the Amazon version of TS12 come with an expanded manual or just a standard manual? If so how many pages should the expanded manual have?

I ask because the manual that came with the Amazon version isn't very detailed. An exanded and more detailed manual with information on how to operate a train in cab mode would be helpful. The tutorials are pretty good but no substitute for the written word.
