New Aircraft

Hi,

On the way to the DLS, a Boeing 737 of Shenzhen Airlines.

Gordon,

No wonder the A-400M was a mystery. I've never even heard of it. Correct me if I'm wrong but it's a brand new aircraft that the Europeans (Airbus) have built to compete with the old faithful Hercules. It's only been flying a few months. The high wing & tail plus four engines had me fooled into thinking is was a C-17 from a distance.

This software business is all foreign teritory for me. I see lots of excitement about these two programs & can kind of see the benefit but with no modelling baseline myself, I have nothing to compare it with.

Let me see if I understand. You were able to find some models in "3D Warehouse" & were able to convert them into a trains format using sketchup & RubyTmax without having to model them again from scratch. But, judging by your comments, there is other work that needs to be done that takes quite some time. I started looking at the thread link you posted and will try to get a handle of it over Xmas.

I promised Ian I would start my modelling career :hehe: by building some assorted payload items such as baggage containers & pallets for aircraft. Instead of trying to learn Gmax from scratch, would I be better off learning SketchUp? Penny for your thoughts.

Rob

P.S. if you happen to stumble over any Bombardier CRJ-200 or 705's, Embraer E190 or Boeing 777 aircraft on 3D Warehouse that you feel like converting, please feel free put them on your list. Once one model is in the system, I'm sure us repaint guys can make the list grow in no time, particularly the CRJ's which seem to be popular with many airline companies around the world.

Your spot on Rob,

Using sketchup you can also import .3ds files and use them as well, the extra work comes in getting the paint jobs looking right, RubyTmix is a plugin and when finished doing its thing you just import the content from the output folder into Trainz useing Content Manager.

The plug in even adds the thumbnail, good for static models dont know if you can use it to make Locos, still learning. Some models are scaled wrong so time needs to be spent getting it right, imported an aircraft refueling truck and it was the size of an A380, answer delete and start again.

Good to know Gordon, thanks.
I had a poke around in 3D Warehouse last night & there is loads of stuff there. I imagine it will save a bunch of time in the modelling side of things. Getting some of the aircraft to do some of Vulcan's tricks may be a bit more difficult, but it's a fine start.

Rob,

While it is quite easy to import a Sketchup model into Trainz using the RubyTmix plugin for Sketchup, it will only do a scenery object, does not support attachment points (though you could add these using PEVs tools), and has no animation support.

I also noticed missing parts in a bridge I imported (I assumed single sided textures did not show from some angles). This bridge had 91 textures.

Most of the models uploaded so far are from the 3d Warehouse, and usually have a lot of polys and many small texture files, as well as a ground mesh from Google earth, which is not really helpful. You could edit the files in Sketchup, gathering textures into one file, but it may be hard to reduce polygons. Of course doing your own Sketchup model would allow better control.

I feel for your long term use, you would be better trying gmax to get a full range of functions in any models you make, particularly for animation.

Hello markbebe,

I have now converted the Galaxy to a static model with open doors, just uploaded and approvedl.

I may do some other static aircraft models of passenger aircraft, with doors open, after Christmas, and will post a note here when done.

Ian, your static Galaxy is looking great! Thank you.

Hello Uracco,

I was going to envisage a Monarch A320, but, look at the DLS...

Vulcan just issued an A321 with Monarch & British Airways liveries.

Ian, Thanks. I could not resist to start an Air France reskin!

Pascal

Hello Pascal,

The A321 is a longer version of the A320, so needed a new mesh. I believe the A321 is also used by China Southern Airlines. :)

Ian

Hello Ian,

I saw your new mesh. China Southern is an user of the A321, but there are so many other liveries...

Hi,

My last (I think) aircraft reskin of this year:

An Airbus A321 of Air France.

To meet on european airports the British Airways and Monarch models of Ian.

Available at the DLS.

This will be the next aircraft:

I have uploaded a new version of the A321, the limfront had to be moved forward so the pushback tractor could connect properly, Rob pointed that out to me. It is only the main mesh that has been changed in the version 2 model, no changes to the textures or other parts. If you would use the latest model for reskins, appreciated.

Nzms, Can you reskin a new novair in A321?

Vulcan has made a A321.
HURRAY:D

I got an airplane wishlist of 2012:
C-17 Globemaster III
Airbus A340
F-35 Joint Strike Figther
F-22 Raptor
B-2 Spirit
Boeing 757
Boeing 777

I hope one of these can be made :)

I am gonna try to make an aircraft route of Operation Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn in and Operation Enduring Freedom, the aircrafts i need is Boeing AH-64 Apache and maybe Lockheed AC-130, and the Vulcan's next aircraft the UAV is perfect. But i need to get aircraft to work on TS2009:(

It's been a while since I posted but I am still watching the great work of the many reskinners/creators and route creators. There has been some amazing work over the past so many months.

Nice work on the new drone Ian (think that's what there generally called).

Pascal, I have been downloading many of your reskins, they are great. Many thanks for your work.

Happy New Year to all and all the best for 2012.

Craig
