New Aircraft

Ian, I just thought of something that would be very cool for the airplanes, you might be able to program them to open the airbrake when you apply the brakes on the train, that way it would have a realistic animation for slowing down!

Hi guys in the the fine art of Flight Trainz,

Just an important reminder for all our magnificent creators of trainzy flying machines :hehe::

For those trainzy birds intended for TS 12, do not make shadows beyond 1000 polys...

If not...

The built-In aircraft, used at built-in route 'Municipal Transit Railroad'

The Aircraft (Airbus A320-232 Air New Zealand) is from 'Vulcan' and have at the DLS a correct shadow, but now, in TS12 is the shadow-mesh a large box.

look here:

There's a shadow polycount limiter set up in TS 12 that converts -by loading a built-in one- all shadows beyond that one thousand into a boxed (nothing to do with the original mesh) one.

Further info: Read my --> http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showpost.php?p=783217&postcount=15

Great Peter PEV is working on a solution for this on his new QUICK SHADOWS version --> http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showpost.php?p=783286&postcount=35

The Company also expects to solve this ugly view with new below-1000 shadows coming from original creators.

Moving forward, I would expect that many of our partners will address this issue in their models, and that we'll see future updates with improved shadow meshes that don't exhibit this issue.

Surely Ian knows about it.

Keep all your superb work and screenies,

The warning side of Alberte

Quite right Alberte, thanks.

Many of my planes have large poly shadows (well larger than the new limit) because while the wings and tail had been simplified, the fuselage uses more polys to get the curved shape of the shadow, so just over the limit.

Someone used the A-320 in a map supplied to Auran, and the aircraft has now been built-in to TS2012. There are also a couple of helicopters, but only the one aircraft that I know of that is now built-in. I can obsolete them with a new upload.

I understand Auran experienced problems with some other creator's train models when lights were on, giving drastic reductions in frame rate. On investigating they found some enormous shadows being used, (I assume handrails and fine detail etc were shadowed) but too late in the release process to alert cretators or make better changes. Perhaps Auran should have eliminated shadows if they were above the limit, instead of creating a shadow as large as the mesh bounding box, so be it.

I have reduced the shadow for the A-320, not uploaded yet, CJ187 has checked it for me. I will await my copy of TS2012 so I can verify the shadows before I upload any fixes. As it is difficult to reduce polycount in an already created model in 3dsmax, you have to start form scratch to do a shadow model, so fixes will take time.

I will have to spend time on any problem model, instead of new aircraft. I will let you know when they are fixed, tested and uploaded. Any one who has done a reskin of my aircraft that have large shadows should add the new shadow mesh to their models and re-upload.

Additionally, as you cannot animate a shadow, some aircraft that flare for instance do not have a shadow, I know it can look strange when mixed with others that do have shadows, but that is better than seeing a shadow outline outside the main mesh. This particularly applies to flaring aircraft, the KC135 tanker that changes height above the track and to future helicopters that will use that option for lift off (when I get around to finishing them). For the same reason, you cannot have shadows for animated flaps, folding wings and landing gear, so all aircraft do not show shadows for those parts. I use an invisible shadow mesh to get over the CMP requirement for a shadow to be supplied.

While Trainz is quite versatile, compromises have to be made.

Ian

;) I was sure that Ian was in the know. :D

Thank you for your clarification and plans, dear Ian.

As you could see I also had to create in Max a new compromise shadow for that loco model to be fixed.

We all hope Peter's new Quick Shadows can also help reskinners relieve your work on making new shadows over.

Take care,

The too much shadowed side of Alberte

What does everyone else want to do.

Josh
Hi Josh, I imagine you are talking about hosting of Airport layouts. I have not worked on mine for a couple of months as I have been busy with life matters and also fixing content in the "DLS Cleanup" process.

So at the moment I do not think mine is worth hosting until I start working on it again and then I can start to provide "progress" shots for your site.

I will let you know how I am going.

Is it possible you could make a tornado jet fighter vulcan? and maybe a westland sea king or westland lynx? (need them for the airport on my layout)

If you have ever checked aerosoft out, that is my plan except airports for trainz. Top quality models with iportals. Jamie, if you would like, you can help and host yours on my mine.

Hi Josh,

I can not do anything with Wagga Wagga, apart from posting screenshots, as it is not my layout and therefore may breach copyright. Besides the whole layout is huge with about 20 routes merged together and this would then mean it could only work with a suitable computer and limit the number of people who could download it. I also have more work to do on it.

There is another part of this Huge merged layout that I am slowly working on, that once I have something more then the DEM file and markers all over the place I can start sending you screenshots of.

Nice reskin Gordon. As well, your airport looks like it is really coming together. Awesome stuff!

Ah I see. It came across as something else.

Maynard, great shots...always looking forward to more!
