New Aircraft

Jamie, the helicopter carrier is a nice idea but could be a lot of work. While you can place a number of lift tables in the deck as separate items, like the Nimitz, users usually do not want to have to fiddle things like that.

I am taking a break from modelling at the minute, if I update the website I need to add more pictures and that puts the bandwidth transfer up too, something to manage.

Josh, I expect to do more passenger aircraft later when I get enthused. For repaints, there is a main texture file in the model that you can alter the colours, but it must be saved with the same filename to work. The fuselage and wings should be easy to recognise, but for minor parts you may have to experiment to see which part of the texture file applies.

On uploading reskins, I have mentioned adding the acknowledgement in the description of the config file, that you have permission to do that with the aircraft models. I see that nzms did use the line but removed the user instructions in the config for the Gulfstream, I meant that the permission be added to the existing description so new users understand how to use the reskins. They may not have downloaded the original aircraft to see the information.

Ian.

Well I hope you go back to modeling soon as you do great work. If you're ever out by the general Philadelphia, U.S.A. way, I'll take you on a sight-seeing flight. Sorry, it probably won't be on an F/A-18, but I guarantee it'll be fun!

Ian, do you have a donation button on your site??
And are there any more aircraft you're enthused about?? I've got 12 Gates for the 320/737/727 (they're all the same size) and 2 fror the A380 and 3 for the 747, not very realistic, I'd prefer 4 727/737/320, 4 767/787/330, and some cargo area (Fedex 727 made by CJ1287(Not sure of his name))

That brings me to another request, can you re-skin a 747 into Fedex colours?? (Without windows of course)
Jamie
PS Did you know that Osprey's are replacing Chinook's??

Thanks for your input Iced, I'd gladly accept that and that Navy C-130 you said you may create

2 How do i repaint these beautiful planes

Hello Josh, for my reskins I use a free program called GIMP to open the .tga file and edit it (I'm not sure what the others may be using). Once you get the hang of it it is pretty easy to use!

I'm a fellow GIMP reskinner. And I'll likely get the Fedex 747 started today, and I hope to complete it by Sunday. And I may work on it along with a Ted 737.

Started on the Fedex this evening. Halfway done, I'll likely finish on Friday now.

I am having trouble finding the main texture and what programs can i use

where are the 737 747 a380 model names

The main texture is usually main_(insert airline here). For example, the United 747 (the one that I reskinned) had a main texture called main_united. I'm using the Alitalia one for the FedEx 747, which is called main_alitalia. There are several programs you can use to reskin, I use GIMP. (get it here: http://www.gimp.org/ ) You can also use Photoshop, Paintshop Pro, Paint.NET, or even MS Paint. The model names are any ending in the file extension .im, however you will need gmax or some other 3d modelling program to open it.

Craig, will this suit??

The Jetstar A320 and the Kendell Gulfstream have been processed and are also available for download:

Hi everyone,

As Noel said it has been my turn to be away for a few days. Unfortunately some of the Nurses at the local Hospital have been playing up and I was asked to go in "undercover" as a patient. The Nurses finally worked out what was going on so the Hospital decided to kick me out today.

nzms that looks absolutely brilliant, many thanks.

I see there has been a lot of work going on while I was away and some of the reskins have turned out so well, congratulations to all.

Gordon, your Airport is looking better every time I see it. Keep up the great work.

Craig

Thanks Craig,

Just added another 60 baseboards to the map, now cover Wellington to Palmerston North, working on the Palmerston North rail yards at the moment and will be adding Palmerston North airport over the weekend.

Next stage will be the Air Force Base at Ohakea and then Wanganui my home town.

Gordon

Update: another 40 baseboards added, runway laid at Palmerston North, both runways laid at Ohakea starting to palce hangers

Map now 65MB and counting

Hi Gordon,

Looking forward to seeing Ohakea again. It was a pit-stop at the airforce museum for me, when going down to visit my cousin in Wellington; from where I lived in Tauranga. :)
I could quite easily spend a very pleasant good couple of hours there.
Unfortunately that too was closed down. :(
However Tauranga has an excellent museum; "Classic Flyers".
I used to volunteer there Friday mornings:-

What i meant was when searching for the airplanes where do i go(auran/trs06/........
I now have gimp and last question (i hope) where do i save the reskins

I can't help you on the first question. But on the second question you asked, you save the reskin as the original file. (before reskinning) So if I'm reskinning the United 747 into something else, (by the way the file that you would want to reskin is called main_united.ta) then I would still save the file as main_united.tga . You'll also need to download IrfanView (http://www.irfanview.com/) as GIMP compresses TGA files by default. When you're done reskinning for example, you would save the file in GIMP, then open IrfanView and find the file you edited, then save it as the same file, (main_united.tga) which in the process will decompress the paint. Then you can commit your reskin into Trainz.

Check your GIMP version. Mine always asks if I want to compress at save time and I untick the check box.

erm guys wouldn't it be better to do this sorta thing in a FS of some sort? i know its been said before but as a flight simmer myself (04 and FSX as well as IL2 1946 and First Eagles) the interactions with ATC would be so much more immersive then in trainz, not trying to dampen anyones thunder here its very impressive what you guys have done but wouldn't you feel better fling these for example? http://www.justflight.com/product.asp?pid=161

As real-life, formerly-commercial pilot, it's not so much (for me) about flying as creating the world with aircraft and their related environment, as well as all the other things that exist in Trainz.

cool what did you use to fly?

I just thought the efforts put into these would be beter spent put into fsx or 04 just mho
