New Aircraft

Thanks Pascal, got it now.

Have just tried same thing with jetways and they also break down into component parts that I can save separately so can now build my own design/length. At moment can't make a spline out of the middle walkway bit but will try again when get back.

Like the Air Macau - went there many years ago on a day trip from Hong Kong - took 2 hours to get through immigration.....

Thanks again
Bob

Hi
Vulcan, can you make a F-35A, F-35B and F-35C VTOL?
And could someone reskin an Airbua A340-600 SAS?

I'm liking the F-35 idea, I'd stick to one particular version of it though, I think three is a bit much. I'd go with the carrier variant so it can be used with his USS Nimitz carrier.

All in favor of an F-35?

Today, I'm back to history.

June 1944, somewhere on a British airfied:
An alignment of USAAF C47 Skytrains with freshly painted invasion black & white stripes, surrounded by Horsa & Waco gliders. DDay is not far.

I made four re-paints of the C47 Skytrain. These liveries were carried during Overlord operations, and also other airborne landing operations.
These aircrafts are preserved in various air museums.

In flight, The Argonia: (Airborne Museum, Sainte Mère Eglise, Normandy)

The models have been approved by the DLS and should be available soon.

Drivable Aircraft Re-skin Tutorial

To many it may seem that I had gone to ground & stopped with my re-skin work. That is true to some extent. I haven't done much in the way of re-skins but I have been working away on something else that will hopefully be of use to some of you.

My Drivable Aircraft Re-skin Tutorial is now available to the general Trainz community. Vulcan has kindly hosted it on his website and is available for download as a pdf. If you click on my banner it will direct you to the re-skin tutorial page on the "Ianz Trainz" website.
http://ianztrainz.com/drivable-aircraft-re-skin-tutorial-by-rob725/

Don't be afraid of the size of the document. There are loads of screen shots taking up space & I have tried to capture many of the different techniques used by myself, Pascal & Ian. If you are thinking of re-skinning one of Vulcan's aircraft, please have a glance over this document if nothing else.

No doubt there will be questions & comments in the first short while of this document's existance. By all means post your questions & comments here so that it can be improved. After all, it was written for you guys............

Hopefully the tutorial will encourage more of you to become regular re-skinners and share some of the workload that is shouldered by very few of us.

Um. You know since they're the same aircraft, they'd be easy to convert? It doesn't matter if we're in favour, it matters what Ian thinks

Hi Guys,

I have been away for a while, someone cut off my Internet access, now restored. I have changed service providers and will probably change my contact email soon, will let you know.

Rob has done a nice job with the tutorial, he is trying to help others get started, you just need a paint program. You will find one like Paint Shop and Photoshop that uses layers a big help in re-skinning. Thanks Rob, and constructive comments welcomed I am sure.

Yes the F-35 is on the list, it would probably be a carrier version that we can use the H key to lift off vertically, still have a couple of others to do first.

Rob mentions flasher modifications in the tutorial, to update older aircraft. The more recent ones have a better double pulse flash, unfortunately when you have a number of aircraft placed, they all cycle together, in sync, ho hum. Some aircraft have different pulse cycles, so I have uploaded two other versions of the red and green, with a single pulse of 2 seconds and another with 3 seconds cycle time. These can be swapped for the double pulse if you wish, make sure you update the kuid table as well.

I know that some aircraft have a number of flashers, but I usually only have flasher attachments at the wingtips, and the tail, or on top of the fuselage for helicopters, as they all show through the mesh in Trainz when viewed from the underside for instance.

Exact.
This stuff was tranferred from Sketchup database to Trainz by Coutumariee.
The general quality is rather low and the files heavy (with generally too many polys). The Horsa is OK, but the Waco has no markings. All are static, and repaints need good knowledge of Sketchup.

Just been reading through Rob725's re-skin tutorial. Although I've never done anything remotely like this before, I've been intending to try and do re-skinning eventually and although it seems a lot to get my head around, with a lot of re-reading and playing about I might just get there! It seems to clearly set out how to go about it and answers a lot of the many questions that I would have had to post for answers and know-how. I am sure I will still need a lot of help though - we'll see. It certainly won't be short term - I've just come back from holiday to an overgrown garden for a start - but I might now aim to have all my Heathrow aircraft true to operator and type.

Thanks for the information and your time.

Welcome back Bob,

Re-skins aren't that difficult in principle. The config, txt stuff is actually pretty easy once you do a couple of them. Some of the older models can be a bit more tricky. The tutorial is designed to help you to pick up all the steps and guide you to use what we (Ian, Pascal and me) call the "Right Way".
The more difficult and time consuming step is the modification of the texture (.tga) file. Unfortunately the "art" of modifying the texture file isn't something that can be written in a manual. In short it's a lot like digital photo editing. The multitude of different photo editing packages makes documenting it near impossible anyway. Lots of trial and error is the name of the game unfortunately. Maybe start with a few easy re-skins to get yourself into the swing of it.

The more help we can get with re-skins the better. Personally, I'm really struggling to find much time to generate more variations. The tutorial has stalled everything else for about a month but I'm starting to get back on track now.

Hi,

Welcome back, Bob. Have a try to a reskin, and be sure that Rob or myself will support you.

I dont know if this one lands at Heathrow: a Boeing B777-200ER of Vietnam Airlines.

It was approved by the DLS within less than 5 hours.

Thanks guys, nice to be back....

Yes I will hold you to that and have a go sometime but feel I really need to catch up on things and really clear my mind before attempting so might be a while!

The Vietnam doesn't figure in my Fridays July 2012 timetable, not sure that they fly into LHR at all. I only recall seeing VN 767's at CDG. Waste not want not, it is going to be used on the Asiana B772 service !

Thanks
Bob

At the moment, Vietnam Airlines operates from Gatwick to Hanoi or HoChiMin, with a stop at Frankfurt. May be Heathrow in case of emergency?

Pascal

Magic ! Genie Pascal at it again.

Mention an airline, rub the screen and hey presto it appears :D

Actually I seem to be losing touch - I'd forgotten Asiana changed their livery a few years ago now - and on top of that I was thinking of a blue colour not too disimilar to the Vietnam, but of course I was thinking of Korean Air colours - the Asiana was a predominantly grey colour if I remember right.

Much appreciated
Bob

Well, nothing magic..I would like..

I was after B777s of Korean companies, and when I saw your post, I put this one first!
The Korean Air aircraft should arrive soon. I'm just fighting with the underwing bulge painting.

I must also visit the Paris Air Show at Le Bouget this week. Just to keep the momentum.

Warning! Large pictures...

Hey reskinners, have a look at this web page:

http://www.news.com.au/travel/news/...iest-planes-ever/story-e6frfq80-1226665053330

As it says, are these the ugliest planes flying, ugly as in painted.

Any of the airlines mentioned there, use Google with these names each, go down to the Wikipedia listing of said airline and you will get several pictures of what their paint scheme looks like, like these ones for instance:
