New Aircraft

Hi Bhorton,

Yes, it is possible. I made once a British Caledonian VC10, I can make a BOAC. I'l add this one to my list.

Hey Rob, i'm redoing my fire trucks for vancouver, how many units do you need? the trucks are the ones in the last pic's post of mine.

Gordon,
I haven't given the fire trucks a huge amount of thought or research. I have no idea how many are stationed at YVR. I have three there at the moment.

Good to see plenty of interesting stuff over the past fortnight and from my own particular interest my thanks to Rob for the South African 330 and to Pascal for the Swiss 320's. They look excellent as always.

A few forum comments recently imply that there are enough planes and that Trainz is for trains. I think there is enough scope for everyone's interest whether it be trainz, boatz, planez, carz, buildingz, whatever - what does it matter?

Ian - I see the Fokkers now - thanks. Is the BA Embraer 145 shown in your post #2945 imminent or was it just a picture of a static model from somewhere else?

I've also got a couple of thoughts whilst away.

1. Can the acceleration rate be adjusted through the script or configuration file to avoid the surge on start off or change of taxi-ing speed. I keep steps up or down in speed to 5mph but attempts to reduce the difference to 2/3mph often results in the aircraft stopping altogether and doesn't seem to make any difference anyway. Trains seem to accelerate smoothly - is there something in the program that expects the train vehicle to be pulling a weight of carriages behind it?

2. Can the stop distance between a trackmark and the nosewheel be changed through the script or configuration on individual aircraft? Airbus and Boeing are so inconsiderate when designing their planes, they don't have the same distances between doors and nosewheel - they just don't think about we modellers! If the distance could be adjusted, the pax door would match to the airbridge door leaving just the height to deal with.

If it's possible to make these adjustments then with clear instructions I'll give it a go but I don't want to mess with stuff I don't understand.

Bob

Ian - forgot to ask - is it possible without too much trouble you could produce your Module 13 airbridge without the operator/door pod on the end and without the support legs? i.e. just a straight length of spline without the right-angle bit at the end. At moment I am using a SR footbridge spline.

The Airbus A300-600 is available August 5, in Japan Air System colours.

Bob, the Embraer 145 has been available since July 18, a driveable aircraft.

The steps in the throttle cannot be changed, even in dcc the throttle is in notch increments not continuously variable as a model train controller. Because of the high speed of the aircraft, each step is quite large, as a proportion of the final top speed, a loco with a top speed of 70 kph would have much finer steps. I also do not try to make an engine config to deliver the actual top speed (over 2000 kph for some aircraft) as it would be too difficult to control. So, fine adjustment to speed is not really possible.

However, the acceleration is a function of the aircraft mass entered in the config table, you could change this, for helicopters we found that using the small actual mass prevented the helicopter from accelerating at all, so a larger mass was specified. The engine spec asset also sets an acceleration and braking figure. Having no cars towed behind is actually a help, as the "towed" mass does not vary (nil).

You can vary the trackmark radius to get some difference in stopping point, but this would apply to all aircraft, and the actual stopping position would vary depending on approach speed, mass and the deceleration values in the engine spec. It is not possible to stop a train consistently in one spot for an industry loading for instance, this has been explored with Auran and is a real hurdle for accuracy. This is why Auran made their original oil tanker cars "carry" its own refueling pipe that extended out the side into a concrete wall for unloading, then it did not matter where it actually stopped in the industry. If I could solve this accuracy issue for different train masses and speeds I could release my rotating hopper cars.

The airbridge model is a Kind spline, and not accepted on the Download Station for builds 2.9 and higher. The model would have to be changed to a Kind stitched track with lod and a bit more work, I have not tried any stitched track models yet.

Thanks for that Ian - I ran a search for new aircraft but it didn't show (like the Fokkers originally) Looks like it's because I have been searching by train vehicle when they're classified as Miscellaneous. Now wondering if there's others I've missed seeing.

Good to see a new type - the Airbus A300 as well.

Understand re the spline build under 2.9 and the stopping position accuracy. Yes, I think there'd be a problem unloading the train on your video!

As regards the acceleration rate, I understand you are saying if I increase the mass, it will smooth it out. If so, how do I do that?

Have just downloaded and replaced the BAe 146's with Ian's BA Embraer 145's - looks excellent on T1 and completes the fleet - many thanks.

The only outstanding now on BA is that most of the B777 fleet are -200's. All those -300's parked on T5 just don't look quite right :(

Truc truc assez veuillez Pascal ;)

Bob, just search by my kuid 60238 on the black screen site, if CM is not up to date, all models are listed newest at the top of the list.

Hello All,

I've been rather quiet recently (computer died on me combined with a rather hectic schedule..) however it's nice to see you've all been busy. Ian, I have to say I love your new aircraft! I look forward to seeing a few A340s flying over Maho Beach sometime soon! :udrool:

Speaking of that route, Sint Maarten to Saba is nearly completed. However:

A WinAir Twin Otter lines up for take off to the next airport on its "milk run" - Sint Eustatius. Close to Saba, this airport is known for its runway below a dormant volcano. While currently only served by WinAir flights from Saba and Sint Maarten, its has the potential to be serviced by the Dash 8 and small jets such as the 737 or A320. Flights to Sint Eustatius, coming soon... :D

Maynard

P.S. Maybe I have gone senile in my absence :hehe:, but I'm sure there was a airport module where the terminal building could be placed as a spline. When I recovered my files, it seems that (if it existed) it has disappeared and I can't find it again...

You've been hiding a while Maynard. Welcome back.
The spline is still there. The one I've been using is one of willem2 (Bill's). Search with the text "AirportTerminalSpline" & you should be able to find it. There are 3 to choose from ...spline ...spline1 ...spline2.
The problem is that you'll have to use content manager to find it. DLS doesn't seem to find it in a search??

Hello Maynard

Don't recall seeing you post in the time I've been on here. I know you are the author of quite a lot of working aircraft, a few of which I am using on my Heathrow model so this is just a note to say thank you and welcome back.

An ask for Rob on reskinning -

Before I can do anything with this and follow your tutorial I need a photo editing programme and to understand how to use it. I'm sure you recommended a particular programme but a reread of your posts doesn't show it. I have Paint and Sketchup but remember thinking that presumably they were no good and I would have to get the one you named.

Can you jog my memory - I would prefer the one you named in case there is anything in your tutorial that is specific to it.

Bob,

I actually use a program that came with a Canon scanner some years ago called "ArcSoft Photostudio" It is old and has limitations but I'm familiar with it and it was free. I've used Paintshop Pro before and that is pretty user friendly. I'm not sure whether you can get a "free" student version. Obviously the full blown photo editing programs like Photoshop are going to make the job easier but there is a price tag associated in most cases.

Hope that helps,

Rob
