Need More "life" in Trainz

Lighting in Trainz ... I don't know much technical stuff about it.

It seems that Railworks has a wider FOV ... as opposed to Trainz being a narrow tunnel vision FOV.

Adjusting the sky, and ambient colors seems to work fairly well ... but adjusting the FOV in Trainzoptions just makes a fisheye effect.

Leeferr - I think first we need to be able to adjust the reflectivity of individual assets, or playing with ambient lighting could get out of hand quickly. Some assets appear as if they've been dipped in clear coat!

In order for me to calm down why can't the users calm their posts against this issue?

What's the problem? If you have the pirat edition then you are the pirat, if you are talking about hacking then you are the hacker, if you are threaten, then you are threatener, if you drink to much vodka then you are drunk. We are peaceful community, a lot of us older one, but all of us bought the TS, why you think that you can be exception.

In an attempt to get this back on topic, I'm sure I saw it somewhere on here a while back that advanced lighting or shadows and such like might be considered in the future, no reason why it can't, game engines despite what the marketers may claim are mostly all updates and modifications of the original. However probably better to solve the few existing problems and bugs first.
Personally I think TS12 is pretty good as it is but that's no reason not to want or appreciate improvements if they comes along. If you don't ask you may not get.

The only issue I've found with the lighting is that when it's dark, it doesn't seem dark enough.

I'm not sure if that's due to the brightness setting on my system, or whether it's been fixed in a later version though.

Also, the headlights on most trains do not seem to be very bright, but I think that's a content issue, rather than a game issue.

It's not just on your end Shane, and I doubt it has been fixed in TS12. Nighttime in Trainz is indeed not dark enough. Splitting the gamma slider in two----one slider for day and one for night----would be a good idea for N3V.

I have just read the first two pages of this thread and found it fasinating. Rarely have I read a thread with so much heated argument and passion of peoples convictions. May this thread continue. I would like to make a couple of points. As regards the Graphics in Trainz I find it to be generally ok. Some of the scenery in UMR Summer is breathtaking. My only critizism is with the colours. A lot of them seem more like watercolours than oil paintings. If you look at other games such as Everquest II the clours are much more brilliant. If SOE can do it I wonder why N3V can,t? If they could, think how awsome and awe inspiring a drive though the mountains would be. Food for thought N3V?. My other point is the posts concerning Korikov and his pirated copy of Trainz. I accept that it is an apparently illegal copy. I also accept that Korikov accepted it in good faith from the Transportation Company. What I would dearly love to know is how did they get hold of it and the story behind it. Just my curiousity more than anything else.

I'll see if I can get a response in before the thread is locked.
I feel that Trainz may one day take advantage of more advanced lighting techniques, but the challenge for the developers is how to do so without seriously detracting from the other features of Trainz. Trainz, being one huge sandbox game necessarily must trade off some calculations for others, and I would not like to be the programmer that has to decide what feature stays and what goes.

I, too, sifted through the ashes before I came to this point. Poor Boleyd. He asked a simple question and it turned into Armageddon. Anyhow, I have run some night sessions and find the night unrealistic, but satisfactory. I don't think that is contradictory. This is mostly a visual medium and if we lose the visual we have lost most of it. Then, some will disagree, I am sure. That leads me to think that the day/night sliders are the only real answer. Can anyone imagine all of the "I can't see anything at night" threads on the forum if the option were not available?

Regarding this lighting issue, I have a question. As some of you are aware, I recently uploaded the Commodore Vanderbilt to the DLS. The original Commodore had some lights under the cowling to illuminate the running gear at night which I've read was quite a spectacular sight. I was wondering if there was a way to do this in Trainz? If so, I'd love to give it a try, but the closest thing that I can think of to do it would be a ditch light attachment behind the cowling, but I'm not sure that would work and even if it did, I think the ditch lights would flash, wouldn't they? I think that it would be stunning in Trainz.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Yes, it's quite possible. In fact, there are lights suitable for the job. Check out the VMD GP9 for a example.

Well, I checked it out, but didn't see what you were talking about; however, there were a couple of corona textures that were showing in CM with errors.

With regards to night time in Trainz and not being dark enough, I fully agree with this statement, however, I have found that different skies can change how dark it is at night, some downloadable ones from the DLS, including Nexusdj ones seem to do the trick, and just make it that little bit darker, however, you have to set the gamma as far to the left for the best effect.

The only problem I have found is the Speedtrees seem radio-active, as they glow a wierd green colour in the dark, if you get the chance, try it, turn day into night, and then hover over the treez, you will see them all glow in the dark.

It seems the trees are reflecting the sun's light, even though there is no sun around, as it is night time.

LOL ( laugh out loud, ) i thought this was about operations, and maybe that wish that there was a 'trainz business office' module, like the one in the old game "A-Train", where youl'd have your railroad and it'd need money to run it, as well as coal or diesel...

if you want life, look outdoors and see what light actually does to the world, how really fleeting the effect. Things like 'physics model' are about what Trainz-life is about -- that, and your CPU and video card. : )

or, didn't anyone else care that the little human figures don't really respond to anything but themselves?

Hi all!

I would like too , to see better graphics in Trainz , it's very normal to want some improvement , and it's about 3 years that lot of other games and sims can offer more realistic graphics! and i'm for shadows and realistic rain.
Another improvement i want to see , is a better way to made session and adding easily a player train... and a more realistic driving feeling
If Trainz has to be only a kind of "H0 trains network simulator " like some suggest, so i don't understand the need for cabs....
