Nationall Train Day, this Saturday, May 7th

Too bad I was in the area last weekend, but not now. Thanks for the link though, I was able to check out Chicago's offering, which looks pretty lame. Okay, actually ALL the cities involved look pretty lame. The same Amtrak display (must be salivating like mad to think of all that high speed rail waste of money it will get), celebration of ethnic uses of early rail, a concert in New York City (wow...New York City!). A concert. For National Train day. Really.:o

National Train Day at the Philadelphia 30th St Station is this Saturday, May 7th, 11AM to 4PM

And in other news Cass scenic railroad is starting up May 27 I believe its engine runs again:D . The last train run until next year is October 30 so go there before you have to wait until May of next year.

Also and more news Denver and Rio grande is also the biggest narrow gauge in America:wave: . Cass has the most geared locomotives 7.

Thats it this is news reporter Bob have a great day.

The reporter side of Beattie:mop:

For some stupid reason you have to print out "Free" tickets on the website, in order to get in.

I guess if you sign up as: OBL (Ohh...Sammy) :p you will be refused entry, and be placed on the "no train" for you, list ?:hehe:

It was nice to get back to Jersey for awhile, even if the reason was not too pleasant. I managed to console myself with hoagies, Tastykakes, and Boost!

Wow Ed,

Me.... born and raised in Philly.... then near Cape May, NJ.

I often think about a real Philly hoagie, cheese steak.

We can get Tastycakes in the Carolinas.

Have fun,

I was born and raised right across the river from Philly, in Beverly, NJ, North of the Tacony Palmyra bridge and South of the Burlington Bristol. I was in Cape May this past August with my children. They had never been to an ocean before so I took them to the whole Jersey Shore for a couple weeks.

A Philly cheese steak is a bit of heaven, and Tastykakes the same. I heard they were selling to a southern bakery outfit...too bad!

Well, being raised in the same area of the country explains our similar sensibilities! While we are on the subject, I owe you a thanks Ron. It's nice to know others have long memories as well...

Yep, Tastykake was sold last month to a company in Georgia. Let's hope they don't change anything. Mmm cheesesteaks and hoagies...and pizza...I'm having a Homer Simpson moment...

Ed,

You owe me nothing. It is a matter of respect, not disrespect.

Regards,

Tastykake pies are the best because they aren't covered in that sugary glaze, They actually taste like pies. I hope they survive the new owners. Thanks for the link, RR.

And Ron "respect" is a rare commodity these days...;)

And Pittsburgh refuses to acknowledge it. They are even getting rid of their history with railroads....yet keep their history with the Pirates and the steel mills?

How do you have a Steel Mill without a railroad?
My thoughts exactly. They always say "Oh look at that empty plot of land that used to be a steel mill" but never "oh look at that apartment building, that used to be the PRR train station" or "Look at where the southside is....that used to be the B&O yards" :n:

Thats a railroad that really needs to make a come back like Norfolk and Western steam engines need to come back to the railroad.

True fact the Cass railroad was almost lost in 1961 when the state was about to sell if off and get rid of the 11miles of today some rail lover bought it and told the state you can let passengers run on this rail and make a lot of money. Well they didn't believe it but gave it a try and in one year 25,000 people came to the railroad and saved it.

So maybe if well tell them how much money they make it would make other railroads have special runs and will be so cool.
