N3V Video tutorials - Very educational!

Since 2001
Hello Tony, sir (N3V)

Thank you for these video tutorials! -- I might have the edge on other trainz stuff, but layers was something I could not get, and this video really helped me out understand that process! I hope folks benefit as I did!

Trainz - Content Creation - #7 - Understanding Layers in Surveyor and what to use them for

Very kind Regards
Ish

Help! I watched your very informative video and thought I had it figure out but not so. I have a very detailed route that I have been editing in session mode. I am at the point where I would like to save as new route but every time I save it under an existing route on a new route name there are major items missing if I open from the new route name. If I open to edit a session everything is there. I know I am missing something maybe someone could point me in the right direction.
Thanks

Yes the video tutorial of "Layers" is excellent. Is great being able to watch how they are used and it has encouraged me to actually give the "layers" a try now, instead of "will give them a go another day"..... and of course that "day" just does not happen.

If I open to edit a session everything is there.
Merge the session layer into the route layer. Save the route. Test the route without loading the session. Success? Delete the session and stop using / saving sessions.

When I work on a route, I make 100% sure I work in the route layer (by editing the route, not a session) and never save the session.
It is still a mystery to me why Trainz even asks me to save the session when I edit a route. It should not even offer me a session layer when editing a route to begin with.

Thanks that did it but if I want to save train commands my understanding is that I can only do that in the session layer, correct?

To avoid confusion, my recommendation would be to save the route first, per advice above, then Create a new (named) session to add rolling stock, driver commands etc.

John

I thoroughly enjoyed the Twitch TV video about 'Layers' - This was so informative and I picked up a few ideas that I am sure I will use in future.

I'm now looking forward to viewing the video on 'Triggers'. Thank you !!

Cheers,

Hello Roy, Community --

I checked out the Trainz - Content Creation - #8 - How to use triggers in your sessions --

Very glad N3V finally doing these kind of tutorial video clips -- They really help out!

Thanks for your support Ish, These have been long overdue but now they are here, everyone should take advantage of any tutorials that make life in Trainz, so much easier.

Cheers mate.
Roy

Hello Roy, sir

Ah, long overdue, indeed, sir -- a few years back I made suggestion for such tutorials, so I am glad to see these coming into play!

I hope N3V does more, like how to set up rules. such as:
CPC: Emit Train - Used to Emit Trains from the Central Portal Control on Triggered Events Also Works with The Un-Portal Rule!

Thus rule is great to flood your rails with trainz / rolling stocks, using track markers, no portals --

Take Care now
Ish

Well, it's about time!
Informative videos from N3V should be a regular feature. I've been Trainzin' for 16 years and I'm still learning!
I couldn't help but smirk and shake my head through the ground texture creation video. Figuring out all the latest (TANE) config.txt keywords ain't so easy is it Tony? Building a set of river textures not so long ago, I made every mistake you did; including wrongly associating the texture alpha with transparency (on models yes, but not on ground textures) while it's actually associated with a reflective surface. (I still don't think reflectivity works on ground textures yet.) But you did make one important statement in the video that we'd all agree with...........................................UPGRADE THE WIKI!
