My search Fu sucks. Is there a way to...

Add different vehicles to traffic? I have noticed a glaring absence on my roads...TRUCKS! A 350 square acre intermodal yard without one truck moving in or out of it just seems off to me.
And like the title says, I couldn't find it with a search. I've considered making them traincars and laying invisible track on the roads, but don't really want to muddy up my engineer list any further.:o

So, what I'm reading says no, not at this time? Unless I'm missing something?
(see #5 response to #4 post)

It's all so confusing, Master!

You may be able to remake standard vehicles as cars and then add them to a region, but otherwise you must wait until the crane nests behind the reeds of the sunset...;)

Found the Carz asset, but...

It is Road_Rager, but isn't listed as a trackside object like every other Carz car, only as a scenery item.

I have cloned this and re-written it as a trackside object with no faults, no errors.
I have updated the Carz mesh library to include this item with no faults, no errors.

But I cannot find that list mentioned in post #4, and I'm thinking that's why it still doesn't show up.

I have seen the nesting crane, but it fled as I drew near.:'(

Long ago in a completely different era I built a yard and what I did was actually build a region file I believe where I replaced cars with trucks.

trucks,<kuid:240543:1065>

It is on the DLS and it should work in practically every version of Trainz I think, if it doesn't I make no warranty beyond 2006:hehe:

You just have to have all the kuids that are contained within it downloaded from the DLS for it to work.

Well looking at it (I haven't had it downloaded in years) I guess some of the dependencies within it are now gone from the DLS or at least can't be obtained through TS12's CMP. That doesn't mean that you can't create one yourself using whatever assets you want.

It doesn't work in 2010 either, sorry I guess I can even download it to fix it simply because it's calling a dependency that's no longer there.

I think that scenery carz need the tag
trackside 0.01
in their config.txt file to appear on roads.

Bob Weber

Well actually the re-write was rather extensive, but yes the tag is in there.
I also had to make a shadow mesh for it using quick shadows, add a .wav file and migrate the meshes to the Carz mesh library. Checked and got no errors, no warnings, committed the asset and it now lists as a trackside item, not scenery.
Problem is, the new type mesh of my file was causing the library to look for new versions of all the other files as well. I cloned it, did all those too, then checked and got no errors, no warnings, did a little sleight of hand with the files of the original library and my clone, and committed the updated original again with no errors, no warnings.

Open Trainz, and the cars still run, but still no truck. It's trackside, it's in the library, it's not on the road. I'm befuddled.

THAT'S what I can't find. My route is a clone, and the config has no kuid table, and I can't find anything labeled region. Do I need to go back to the original route and add it to that?

Okay have made some screenshots of what I did way back when and I just looked at it in 2010 and it's is doable now as it was in 2006.

First this is one of my routes
2010%20route.JPG

As you can see the region is right there.

Now if you search for United States using the built-in filter you'll see the following

2010%20route-1.JPG

This is the file you need to clone, once you make a clone and look in to it using CCP you'll see the following

2010%20route-2.JPG

Now you see all those cars, you can hit the two little dots and replace them with any truck that you have downloaded. This is what I did way back in 2006 and it would still be available on the DLS if one of the trucks that actually was in it was still there, but the very first truck it tries to pull from the DLS is missing, so you're not even get the region file.

But you can make your own region file from this clone with any vehicles that you want, then go back into your route after you've saved and committed your clone, and hit the button with the two little dots and change United States or whatever other region you have listed to your clone, then those trucks should run up and down your streets and roads.

Now keep in mind when you do this, if you replace all the cars with trucks all you're going to have is trucks. So you may want to use a mix if you have something other than the commercial area in your route.

Okay done, done and done.

And it works! I now have a truck on the road. Thank you guys so much! However...

I had a theory on why they weren't included in the first place. They are constructed as a one-piece vehicle, and going around corners is rather, well, comical. Apparently vehicles are set up to have a single pivot point, I'm guessing no one has figured out how to articulate one. I'm game for some experimentation if anyone else is, though my mesh knowledge is limited. Is there a way to get attachment points involved?

The other issue is the night mode. I had to copy this file from another vehicle, and it isn't cutting it. Shows up like an animated sketch. I suspect one needs to be written specifically for this vehicle, can anyone confirm? Can anyone create this file?

At this point I'm happy, and can live with it as is. But I think this can go further, anyone willing to join in?

EDIT: Should this be moved to the CCS page?
