moving multiple objects erases existing objects just by passing over them

In TRS22PE S.20 I will highlight several objects to move them to another location in the same map. As I pass over other existing objects, without stopping to place them, those existing objects are deleted. How do I change that behavior to not do that and then as a bonus to just place the moved objects without doing anything to any existing objects that happened to be already there?

Moving them individually doesn't do this. Only when a marquee surrounds them.

The Marquee tool will move all selected objects, including the ground texture and terrain heights, as you move them across the map and will replace all pre-existing objects .

A better method of moving a group of objects is to select them by holding down the Shift key and Left Click on each object to be moved. Then hold down the left mouse button and drag the objects to their new position. See the Trainz Wiki page at https://online.ts2009.com/mediaWiki/index.php/How_to_Use_S20_Tools#Mass_Moves_and_Clones for the details.

This does sound like a bug though. Moving content from elsewhere via a marquee tool shouldn't completely ameliorate what's already placed until the marquee is placed and deselected.

The way it works now is like a giant eraser on a chalkboard as it's being dragged across the surface.

I don't know if it is a bug or not but I suspect that the inclusion of the terrain height in the selection is the main reason for this issue.

I don't use the marquee tool for moving objects because its shape is rectangular, with its sides parallel to the baseboard sides, and the larger the selection area you draw the more difficult it is to control. The Shift + Click selection method has always been my preferred way of selecting objects for moving and cloning.

I don't see how the terrain height should make a difference. Just passing over without stopping should not affect objects along the way. And even when stopped, it should only add the new objects to the existing ones. At least that is how I thought it would work. In the past I only tested by moving things to empty spaces and only passed over empty spaces.

In a way it makes for a fast bulk eraser. Need some empty space to build some new scenery? Wiggle an empty marquee over the area and voilà, empty space.

My object "eraser" is a scrapbook that contains just a few small grass objects. Then I:-
  1. Set the scrapbook mesh and spline filters to overwrite and the other filters to none or overwrite depending on what needs to be erased.
  2. Select the Scrapbook Clone Brush Tool.
  3. Set the Tool Options Palette Scale setting to a ridiculously high value (e.g. 10000%) and the Radius setting to a suitable size.
  4. Start painting the "eraser" over the area to be cleared.
This gives far better control, with no height issues, than using the Marquee.

I have one of those as well. I use it all the time to clear a forest if I'm laying track where I had already landscaped.
