Module Challenge

Well, it might be out too late for the judging, but I've submitted my layout this morning. We'll see if it's processed in time.
It's called UM-NS Halston Corners. It's a six board module with 3 passenger stations on an s-curve and 5 industries to service.

Here's the map.

The industries center around the sawmill in Halston Corners...

There's a pulp mill and factory to take the products and a shipping company to send the finished goods off.

And naturally a branch line to a logging camp...

After climbing the canyon, it doubles back on a switchback and crosses over itself to reach the camp. (This was before I added trees.)

And that's my contribution. With luck it will be on the DLS on the next update, otherwise by Monday.

Hiya

I designed the guidelines for the UM system about 4 years ago now. I'm not sure who is hosting them up at present but i'm almost certain I no longer have a copy.
All the rules were designed for TRS04 and i've never got around to updating them for 06/TC etc.

Really cool to see people still interested in the theory though

So how is everyone doing? I assume with Jimmy having to start over the deadline is a bit flexible, but we should all be done soon, if you haven't already finished yours.
If you're building a module for the party, could you let us know how it's coming along?

 Claude

I don't see any restrictions on Trainz versions, almost done with mine.

of course there must be version rules
because not all versions are compatable

like if you build it in 2006 with SP-1
It wont load in my system because I dont have the SP ( its not available )
and if I put it into 2008 any built in content used from 2006/2007/2004 will not be available to me !!

Can I build a station layout with three lines from the north converging on one towards the south? At the heart of the action will be a large station with lots of opportunities for AI interaction. I'll try uploading it if this is allowed, as I cooked this up to kill time. :)

Does anyone have a copy of Eso's original rules for the modules?? I have contacted him and he no longer has them due to computer problems. If someone has the original text file could they send it to me please? Thanks.
Glen

Dogpile came up with:

http://trainz.50megs.com/index.html

It apears to be a standard for Trainz modules similar to modular standards for N Scale. It looks like it is for TRS2004. How about TRS2006? TC does not appear to be apropriate.

I will consider it, if I can use TRS2006 SP1.

SuperFudd found the standards for U-Make here. It has a lot of useful stuff on textures and such so the modules will fit together smoothly. (Except for the little detail about track falling off the industries on merging.)

Thank you for the address and quick reply Claude. I will look around now and attempt to make one of these little gems myself.:D

sorry bout that. Well I really got it coming to me after Trainz refused to stop this $%^#& Crashing so I fell behind, I have built a Narrow Gauge Module and should have the pics up soon.

Sorry for not responding sooner, Our internet was down for awhile.

Well once again I lost the above route, to make up for my blunders, I am uploading 2 modules.

This one is called N-S Falcon Depot, It is 3-4 boards (can't remember exactly how many) with a station towards one side. There is also a small goods drop off next to the station. To my knowledge I only used default content in this route.

I can't get fraps to work so if anybody could post some pictures for me, that would be great.

I'm going to restart the contest, (by the way, by default Tokkyu40 has won the origonal since he was the only one to completely make a route and I must say, Its perfect!) so sign up (I'm going to make a new one for the new challenge) your module!

I'll have the second module (UM S-E Highley) up for download soon.

Ok, heres highley!

this on is called Highley. Its based off of the track plan and surrounding area of the show "Oh Doctor Beeching!". Its not done to an exact (only seen one episode and part of another) but You should be able to tell what its based on. I'm pretty shure all the items are built in except for the bridge at the end of the platform. I think it Might be built in but I dunno.

This one (unlike Falcon Depot) is passenger interactive.

Some interest, but I don't have time these days. I have given it some thought though.
I currently have a layout ready to upload for TC but no time to do so. First I will have to figure out how.
I have another layout, for TRS2006, at least 90% done. It is a combination of an improved version of my Niles & Hinton and a reworked Winchester by someone whose name escapes me at the moment. Both are on the DLS.
Edit: It is Winchester County by Puffernutter.

Jimmy,
Just returned for a look at how things are going. Is the challenge still running? Or, as per previous posts, has the enthusiasm gone? If it is still going I might be able to get one off the ground. Need something to get the juices going again after some computer probs of my own:( .
