Model Railroadz

More progress.

Sorry to quote an image, Chadd, but would you be able to tell me the name of the textured spline you would have used to blend the dug out terrain into that curved fascia, and the accompanying texture?
Looks great by the way, seamless benchwork :)

Looking epic there, Cole, as usual :)

Cheers
Stevo

Thanks for all the complements! The route is set in the general "mid west" for now. It is based of the Kirkland and Dekalb in Model Railroader.
The textures are by Drstrach and the spline is his grass loading dock. All his assets are off the DLS. Hope to have more progress soon.

I would like to know if anybody here would be interested in adding the Model Railroad parts to a layout of mine. The layout is a small swamp logging route, and if you decide to help me, please don't change anything on the route. PM me with your email address if interested, I will send you the route, and when you finish the Model Railroad stuff, send it back to me, and I will put it on DLS. You will receive credit in the description.

Thank you in advance, MeowRailroad.

The 'norma'l sky was not implemented in the TS12 release of Westwold but will be a feature of TANE 1 and future releases. This is actually necessary because of 'shadows' being worth having in TANE (meaning that I have to rethink / rework the backgrounds) but it opens a whole can of worms.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a command in the config file for an asset to 'cast shadow' which is currently obsolete for anything but locomotives and rollingstock? Surely T:ANE, to accommodate for all older content, would be making use of existing commands for compatibility and changing the engine to accept those commands from assets previously unsupported?

I guess what I'm trying to say is if I were in charge of development this is the route I'd adopt (it seems the most logical and least costly), which would mean you'd simply have to report a 'false' command to any backdrops you don't wish to cast a shadow.

Just to clarify here. TS12 and earlier only supported shadows on 'traincar' assets (locos and rolling stock), and on 'bridge' assets. Some users had success attaching 'bridge' assets to regular objects to cast shadows, however this was never officially supported. These shadows were generated from a shadow mesh (removing the mesh meant no shadows).

T:ANE, in using a new game engine, now generates shadows on all objects automatically; and includes shadow variations depending on alpha channels (transparency). However, at this time, it is simply setup to apply shadows to all objects in the scene. Backdrop objects are something we may need to look into in future, depending on how they act within T:ANE.

When I first saw the photo, that's exactly the route that came to mind! I've toyed with the idea of recreating that one - guess I'll leave it to you now! Looks good though - can't wait to see more photos!

Hallo to all of you!

This really is a busy thread! So much interesting work to be seen, so much inspiring screenshots!

I also have been busy lately because I remembered a project I started long time ago with TS 2004... I managed to transfer it to TS 2009 long time ago but I never finished it. Nevertheless the trackplan never got out of my mind and last year I started from scratch with TS 2012. I kind of planned it as a model-railroad, but I didn't knew that there was something going on called "Modelz Trainz". So last week I stumbled over that unfinished project and started to change it a little bit...

So have a look at work in progress on my long forgotten "Saegetal Nord" layout. It is based on a trackplan in "HP1" wich is a very special german model railroader publication.

With these pics I'd like to encourage all of you who (like me) have a project sleeping somewhere (too) big to be finished: shrink it down to modelz trainz size and get it done!

Cheers!

Here's a view over the right wing of the Modelz Trainz layout....

Here we have the entrance of Saegetal Nord. Trains coming in from the fiddleyard behind the tunnels in the background.

One last pic (for today): work in progress: Turntables and engine yard in the background, some industry, the tracks of the station and the freightyard full of cars....

Well done Woelferl,

It is actually a nice change to see a very realistic looking German scenario in a "Model Railroadz" format; for most prototypical/fantasy German routes currently on DLS look more like a "Model Train Layout" than the real thing.

Oh, but it's SG.

I might make an NG one, though, I have always had an interest in NG. And I have always had a pile of NG stuff in CDP's on my desktop. Also, I started another version of this route that is definitely a Model Railroadz, it has the same feel though. Not ready for pics yet. Thank you for your compliment.

This reminds me of what I made:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMRapBFp5IA

The following screens show my effords in reducing the original layout to modelz trainz size. It is still very big due to the fact that I started the layout the "usual" way. So there's a lot of work to do! I'll keep you posted!
