Model Railroadz

Here's a few from my WIP New Castle Northern model RR.

NCNO 723 and FURX 3048 lead train 53 past a coal mine. In the foreground is HLCX 1516, which is on lease to the NCNO as a mine switcher. Here it is seen resting while train 53 goes by.

1516 gets rolling again taking advantage of the mine's long switching tracks.

Here 1516 is seen blowing for the crossing leading to the mine office. In the background NCNO SD40-2's 712 and 717 can be seen idling while they wait for their train to be loaded.

More progress on the NCNO mine scene. Getting close to getting this spot completed.

Train 54 blows for the crossing as it rounds the bend roaring towards the access road. Today FURX 3048 is leading the consist followed by NCNO 723, and HLCX 6080.

NCNO SD40-2's 712 and 717 were the mine dog again today. They can be seen on the switcher track resting after returning from a coal run.

Feedback, comments welcome! ;)

WOW! I see one minor flaw in the whole thing, where your backdrops meet it goes from oaks and fields to southern pines and mountains, kinda strange if you ask me. Other than that great work!

Thanks man! I was just screwing around with Dave's backdrops trying to get the tree lines to match in heights so my inner OCD wouldn't kill me, that was as close as I got. Tree change bothered me less than tree line height, so I went with that. As hard as installing the backdrops the first time was, I'm in no hurry to replace them. Maybe once the route starts getting closer to completion will I fix that problem. You haven't seen this thing's hump yard yet...;)

Not much progress save this little guy right here.

Meet NCNO 1515. HLCX 1516's sister (plans are in the works to buy her as well). When 1516's in the shops or elsewhere, you'll find this guy working the mine, like today. In the background is Extra Train E75.

She's far from benig one of the newer units on the roster, she was bought and repainted back in 2000, so she's showing her age.

When she was painted, the crews decided to give her a personal touch, so instead of the typical NCNO blue horn, she wound up with this cool blue/white fade job horn with a red throat.

Very nice looking, a few things I'd recommend.

-I'm noticing some 3 way switches in your engine facility. Most railroads would avoid these and go for multiple 2 ways, but this is model railroading so it's ok to go against the prototypical grain.
-Your yard ladder is curved severely, it could use some straightening. I believe it's stationmistress that has a ladder guide that can help you fix this.

Just my $.02. It's a very nice little route, keep the updates coming.

And now a quick fun shot of my own.

FURX 3029 leads NCNO 717 and 712 around the curve at track speed heading eastbound with coal empties.

Yep, but I use the JK switch system, the #7's (start with JK007 I think) work great for yards.

Great shots guys! Nice routes too!

Time for my daily thread raid.

Today I took a small break from the mine scene to work on the city that I'm putting in and around the reversing loop on one end of the layout. So far I'd say it's coming along nicely. There are roads everywhere here, so you'll make quite a bit of noise going around this loop.

Local train K11 approaches the first crossing. NCNO 723 and GMTX 2651 are on the point today, with 723 giving us a big salute from its RS5TRR.

Thanks man. Thinking about starting up my own thread for this route. Generally it's not a good thing when half of the shots in a thread are yours! lol Just trying to get that blasted city scene done. As cool as it looks, I'm neither good at nor do I enjoy doing these city scenes. And that's not the worst part, the worst part is there's TWO fracking cities on this route. I'm facepalming myself all over the place.
