Well,This thread just jogged my memory on something I bought (for$2.I have scottish ancestry) years ago. Wonder If anyone knows of it.It's by focus and called create your own model railway. Now this little game does what trainz does in a very miniture way. It has the surveyor type of building with grids and mountains and water ETC ETC. The stock is controlled by a number of signals, trackmarks and triggers. I don,t know if I could post a photo legally but it is a unreal copy of trainz.

I have that too. Actually it was an earlier version of Rule The Rail (which I also have) I still use it when I get frustrated with Trainz AI doing dumb things. Because it is all controlled by placing triggers and then choosing what happens when a train hits the trigger, its a bit like when you used to use relays to control model railways.

If anybody is interested here is the web site

Edit. Actually you can download the basic program for free. Registration gives you the ability to install all of the add on packs (which are free to download)

Wow
It sounds alot like Trainz!
They copied Trainz!!!
Tell someone apart from us who read this thread!

Do they have any trams?
If so don't sue them!!

No it's not like Trainz. Trainz is a railroad simulator, this is like playing with model trains on the table top, but quite relaxing ;)

A couple of screenies of one of my Rule The Rail layouts

And to get the thread back on track, here is a shot of one of the miniature trains that started this thread

I take back everything I said.

I just downloaded the free demo.
Its different to trainz in the way that its hard to move around. You don't have as much freedom as in trainz.

this is what i meant

Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway

its just a little thing not like the actuall railway screenies comming soo

oh because i only build routes would it be possible to change the top speed as thay are a bit tooo slow the need to go like 35mph

Ronayne, for your information.

Anyone can legally design a computer program like Trainz provided that they don't use the same code or steal stuff already created by Auran. That's why thousands of manufacturers build cars that have engines in the front and four wheels. As long as the body shape and engine design isn't stolen from someone else it's all legal. Patent and Copyright laws are designed to encourage innovation and competition.

Back to the original subject, is the track on the route 2ft or 3ft, because a have a group of brilliant UK 2ft gauge steam locos and rolling stock for the Ffestiniog Railway. If anyones interested, its freeware content Scrigibby's TrainZone. Its under Ffestiniog Railway under Freeware Downloads under Downloads. Its really great!

Heres Scrigibby's TrainZones URL

Actually, this little program is a lot of fun. I don,t mean to say they copied trainz, I,m sure they didn,t. I have the feeling that this was out before trainz. On the back however is the key features.
Superb 3d graphics with highly? detailed trains, building and scenery. Drag and drop editing Create hils mountains ETC ETC with ease. 47 playable and editable layouts. 12 locos. 32 wagons and stock. and so on.
Yes the surveyor is not easy to use but the basics are easy to grasp. Please don,t think it is a great program. It,s not but it is unusual

Full funstions

To get the full functions it is necessary to register and that costs US$15, so it isn't actually free....
Only the intial download is...

I have just bought it and find the track laying limiting because of set track pieces, rather like the Hornby sim. Getting ends to arrive in the right place after curves is sometimes a long and frought process!
Trainz leaves it standing in that respect with fully flexible tracks, rather like Peco Flexitrack or whatever it called.

Can be fun though, not as much as Trainz however....
