Midwest Grain 2.0 - It's coming!!!

Hmm, okay. In my neck of the woods, the independents buy from wherever gas is cheapest, but the major chains always seem to use their own trucks, at least from what I can see ...

In Florida, the majors have eliminated their own trucks and are all on common carriers. Out of Tampa, BP was the last holdout, and they were only running one truck until their 30 year man finally retired. When he retired, they switched over too. I think Chevron still has their own at Port Everglades. Sad state of economics- it is cheaper to contract to the common carriers than to pay for your own employees. It is good to work for the big boys- pay is great, benefits are good, and so on. Not so much so at the common carriers.

The gas itself can come from anywhere. Marathon/Ashland has one of the largest loading terminals in Tampa and I have delivered from Marathon to BPs, Texacos, Shells, Citgos (Citgoes?), and so on, even though BP, Citgo, and Shell also have terminals in Tampa. EVERYONE goes where it is cheapest, and it is not necessarily cheaper from yourself for some reason.

Sorry about taking us down a rathole in the thread.......

Nah. Crud, stuff like that is what makes these forums interesting. Besides, even if it's not immediately train-related, it's pretty close, and I can see it relevant in some way.

Up here, Hess is getting out of the retail and refining business and is going to sell all it's stations and refinery operations and is going to focus on oil production and exploration. I wonder if that will mean the end of the Hess Toy trucks at Christmas.

With the sale ending tonight I'm hoping to see a new release from JR tomorrow. I have seen a boat load of screen shots from the beta testers (JR staff) and it looks like this next release will be big. I only have $100.00 in the bank for new stuff so I hope that will be enough.

I was hoping for that as well....then the Steam summer sale just had to start today. It is times like this that I am glad I am not married.

LOL, man some of these comments are just great! Releases are approaching VERY fast and it wouldn't be out of the question for a few goodies to show up tomorrow.... ;)

LOL - I have steam installed on my PC and still had to look up what steam summer sale was. I'm married, All I have to do is hide a little money from each paycheck into my account and I get all the payware or most that I want.

Sorry for the picture quote, but I noticed in the pic that there is the correct grain leg piping, is this something JR's has made or is it available some place else?

Actually Adam made that for me a few months ago, I will get with him and see if he wants to get it released!

Thanks,

Mike

I just noticed, is there a steam engine hidden behind those trees on the left? Or am I mistaken it for something else? :p

You are not mistaken. That is the 0-6-0 camelback that Lilb released a while back. It can be found on JR's site under Freeware.

Will the next version be longer that version 1? I really like playing with this route. I get great framerates with Midwest Grain, so I am really looking forward to Ver. 2.

Is there an ETA on the route?

EDIT: More importantly--- Will there be Grade Crossings and Moving Cars on the roads? I don't like to play routes unless there is cars on the roads and working Crossings. I spent a couple hours inserting grade crossings and roads to make the Midwest Grain more to my liking.

Cheers,

Dave
