Microsoft has done it again!

Isaac,

Please reread the above copy of my original post , if after rereading you still feel I was disrespectful , I truely apologize .

My original question is still unanswered , did you see anything in the articles mentioning a new release date ?

With respect --- ,DLR

You don't have to apologise. I was a bit touchy last night, I probably should have went out to get something to eat or something. Anyways, I haven't seen a more recent date of release, but I can look into it.

Isaac

actually Isaacg I was just stating my opinion of MSTS, and in no way talking about you

even if MSTS2 runs of XP, I would still not buy it until Microsoft stops trying to push Vista on me. I hate Vista, and will never use it until I am completly forced to, which seems like it may not be that long from now. They have already tried to cut XP support out of greed. Then the gave support back, and released SP3 which caused more damage then good. my parents computer is still screwed up, hence why I have yet to install SP3

MSTS looks nice but I am into more than driving and I am always kept away from it due to the harder route building I hear of, though I keep feeling a small temptation to get MSTS1 with the larger number of NYC RR content.

...your dollar is much stronger than ours at the moment...

Really? I don't keep up on money comparisons much anymore and with the way some things are happening here, I wouldn't have thought the dollar would be stronger.

Hey Isaac,

That's weird to know .... Here in Daytona, they sell it in Target and Bestbuy....

Could be a distribution issue. I learned some time ago that product distribution in several areas happens in a bulk fashion. Take a toy line that has 15 toys coming out, toys 1-5 may appear in large numbers in stores near you, toys 6-10 in smaller quantities and 11-15 not at all. Because they were all shipped in bulk fashion. 11-15 got sent place that have no 6-10 plus little 1-5 and those with lots of 6-10 have no 1-5 and little 11-15.
That or Tampa Bay stores might have reported not selling enough units to order new ones for shelves. But usually there should be a store somewhere that will special order it if you prefer picking it up physically, else there are the methods john259 or CathyH mentioned.

From what I've read MSTS2 will run on XP with the same system requirements as the latest MS flight sim. i suppose MSTS2 will offer the same old formula of a 3 or 4 routes and limited stock to run on them? The new features that TRS2009 boasts like 5 metre cuttings and textures are things that can be done in KRS. Maybe KRS isn't better than TRS, but I find it better in that I don't have to spend time fixing errors or trying to get it to open. there is more custom content becoming available from various countries, sure it may never have the thousands of downloads available that TRS has, but it runs reliably and to me that's just as important. When track's laid it doesn't kink back it stays straight.I've made a 60km US route with no real problems, maybe it took abit longer than TRS but a worthwhile result. I also have TRS2004 and TC3 so I can run all the SP and QR trains I have on the routes I've built.

Hopefuly without fixed consists like they had in the first one.

Can't we make animated passengers in Trainz? I'm sure we could make a passenger a building or similar with a seperate kuid and add an animation file, much the same as those animated dolphins in TC and have the animations operate at regular intervals. Can't be hard.

I am sad to say that I won't be buying either of them. Neither of my computers would have the guts to do it. Besides, I have already set my focus to more RAM.

Just my two cents,
Jdenm8

(I am saying this in a reguar voice, in a suggestive style.)

I'll get both. But I won't be jumping on any MSTS2 bandwagon and saying how it's better than TRS09, because it won't be. I knew the Kuju Rail Simulator would just be a flash in the pan and that's exactly what it turned out to be. To date the Kuju sim had the worst GUI I've ever had the misfortune to use, after over 20 years of using thousands of GUI's.

My first guess about MSTS2 is, it'll be totally unfriendly to build routes and setup consist.

You're falling into the trap of wrongly thinking that MSTS2 will inevitably be very similar to MSTS. As MSTS2 is being developed by a different company and uses a different game engine, that assumption may not be valid. Of course, you could turn out to be right, we'll have to wait until more information becomes available. The MSTS2 web site is worth keeping an eye on. Until the product is released there's no way to be certain if it will be any good or not.

So...what is MSTS II?

:o Why do you post such a self-admitted polygon heavy program on this site?

Don't even start to tell me that Microsoft can even approach the next release of TRAINZ!

Microsoft MSTS II is a value added thing....

If the money is not there, the software will so disappear...

And the hardcore will cling like buzzards on a gut wagon!

So many train sims are out there...there is not a word for competition of train sims....

Professional sims are so out there!

TRAINZ RULES!

Exactly.
If it's anything like MSTS in the design area, then I won't be touching it.
But I'm not going to blindly say it's going to be rubbish (why would anyone do that?), and I'll keep an open mind until it's released and there's more information around.

I'm very impressed with the "World of Rails" feature of MSTS2, and if they only partially realise their ambitions with this, then they'll still have something quite special.

Smiley.

There's been considerable discussion in recent weeks on UKTS about route building in MSTS2, with minds sharpened considerably by the lack of a detailed route for the UK (and any other area not the US or Germany/Switzerland) out the box. World of Rails is a great idea but MS/Aces are still tight lipped about how it's going to look/work. Probably won't be as bad as RRT3 roller-coasting over the terrain but don't be too surprised if iconic locations such as Birmingham New Street are represented by a single track platform surrounded by a few houses and trees.

It seems "detailed" routes will be more akin to the flight sim process of creating layers but quite how they interface with the WOR areas or other third party areas is far from clear. You can get away with it in a flight sim so long as the airports are contained within the same scenery layer, doesn't matter if the roads don't quite match at the edges. However the fixed infrastructure of a railway is quite different and there *must* be an intelligent algorithm to ensure it all joins seamlessly.

Creating and blending a scenery layer will be a radically different challenge for those of us who have built/build standalone routes in the traditional sims (MSTS, TRS & KRS).

Sounds nasty. I'll stick with my predictions.

Well the proof will be in the eating as they say, but IMHO there will still be plenty of scope for the detailed standalone routes produced in other sims such as TRS. There's also the issue of how MSTS2 will handle historical routes or maybe freelance. E.G. one of my longer term notions for a Trainz route is a condensed 18 WOS style map which would allow you to take a grand European tour but all in a manageable space for one route builder to undertake.

Well I first got involved in train sims when I seen MTS and then three years ago came across Trainz by chance and been hooked ever since. I have only kept MTS on a machine as there were 2 commercially produced routes I knew well especially the Belfast-Dublin Enterprise Express. Most of the locally produced stuff however to repeat does nothing for me. Being a routine ordinary person with capable brain cells I do have to admit not being techy minded and the idea of building anything half decent on MTS not only means being savvy techy-wise but a steep learning curve to put the average bloke like me off. I am happy as a lark with Trainz -firstly 04 then moved up to o6 and have ordered 09. I have just finished building a giant city tram system and I could simply never have managed it with MTS.

Recently an MTS enthusiast visited me as he had seen my website and living a short drive was overethem moon at getting the chance of the complete former City of Glasgow Tramway so boutht Trainzo6 to get it - which tells you something??

To far down the track to turn back...

 I just finished a four hour session downloading the Crawford Hill route, then added payware content using both CMP & CMv2.0 simultaneously!

The route graphics were clear & the field of vision farther than before.

I like TS2009...
