Mesh Viewer not Working

A few days ago my PEV Soft Trainz Mesh Viewer stopped working. I am able to open it but when I open a file. It does not show the mesh. The rendering area remains a dark grey color, while all other functionality of the program remains intact. I have tried running in compatibility mode, and as an Admin with no success. What may be wrong?

Thank you

See if you changed something in your video settings - Mesh Viewer uses OpenGL, if I have the extension limit in the Nvidia control panel set to "clamp" it returns an error. Dunno about ATI, but it probably has something similar. Main thing is what changed just before you noticed the problem, new program installed, new drivers, whatever might have changed the video display.

I dont have a graphics card. I use embedded graphics, Its a laptop

Sometimes the object isn't or wasn't centered when it was created in G-Max (or whatever program). Try opening the file again and zoom all the way out. You may find it way at the bottom or top (or right or left) of the screen.

This is just something you can try. I'm not saying its the only solution.

Cheers,

Dave

I know that it isnt that, I make most of the objects I view in that, and every thing I make is perfectly centered

Easy...

 Any trouble I have from PEVSoft tools is taken care of when I reinstall the program using Admin. Privileges

Hi,

I have something similar happen to me from time to time. Sometimes when I double click a *im (mesh) file it opens the PEV Mesh Viewer but the mesh it self don't show and I need to use the File Open and browse to my file to have it open.

As far as I been able to figure out it seems to happen on my older mesh files exported out of gmax years ago then on my recent files, but that also is not a 100% rule.
I've just learned to live with it, not a big issue as most often I don't look at my older files. :)

Is your problem with the double click of a mesh file or with open it from inside the MESH Viewer?

Best Wishes

Linda

It doesnt matter what I do with the program, the rendering area will just be that dark grey no matter what I do

Embedded chip or plug in video card, either way it has driver software and some kind of control panel to set display options. Lower left corner of the desktop, click the START button, then RUN, in the little window type dxdiag. When the DirectX Diagnostic screen comes up click the Display tab, that will tell you what driver version your onboard video chipset is using. Dunno about win 7, but all versions from XP on back to 95 you right click an empty spot on the desktop, select Properties, then the settings tab and advanced, that will get you a tab that leads to wherever your video control panel is. Assuming, of course, that Win7 UAC will allow you to go there.

Other questions, your profile doesn't show a registered version of Trainz - what version or versions do you have? If it's a version with content manager, can you open a built in scenery object and view the mesh for that, or is that gray too? Something like;

Abandoned-Industry-Spline,<kuid2:33404:5068390:2>

Is best to test with, it's a good sized mesh and if you can't see that it confirms it's not a tiny off centered mesh getting lost somewhere.

I also cannot view meshes in content creater plus, the rendering area shows up black there. The only place I can view im files at this time is in Surveyor
I have Trainz 2009, no service packs yet (if I install them, the game gets seriously messed up)

Do any of these settings conflict with Trainz/Mesh Viewer

On the subject of DirectX, make sure you have the latest version.

Shane

EDIT: As said above, you must register your serial number to use quite a few features in TS2009.

That's worrying - that may prevent certain features like patching, downloading content etc from working.

Also check your graphics card drivers, as a working OpenGL installation is required to view meshes in CCP.

EDIT: If you have an ATI card, your Trainz build number must be at least 38017 or higher.

I can do everything in Trainz but use the DLS, and Update the game. Otherwise, its like I actually bought it. I am going to reinstall the Mesh viewer with admin priviledges. DO you need to see my Open GL settings?

Might be worth a look - the easiest way of doing so is to use the TrainzDiag tool.

This can be found in the Bin subfolder in the Trainz install folder.

Also, what build number is your version of Trainz?
