merge or delete extra spline junctions

When faced with three spline junctions in a row, clicking on the middle one brings up the menu with several option, among them is Delete and Merge Splines. Either one will remove the extra junction and join the two segments together to make one continuous segment.

Is there any functional difference in using either one? Is there a downstream gotcha that could be avoided by choosing one over the other. If not, why have two choices that do the same thing taking up space in the menu when you only need one?

Remove Spline Point​

• Select a single spline using the Free Move Tool
• Ensure you click on the track segment where you want to insert the new spline point
• To insert the spline point, click on the Contextual Menu > Insert Spline Point Here

The Remove and Insert instructions seem to have been mixed up.

Also, the instructions are more along the line of how too. What I was looking for was a why are there two commands, Delete and Merge, that appear to do the same thing as far as spline points are concerned.
