Maybe new computer specs, opinions and advice please!

The performance issue isn't quite what I was referring to, but I got it wrong anyway. I thought Intel had more processors that were over 3GHz, but AMD seems to have pipped Intel on that mark...

Anyway, on the performance issue, there is little difference between the X2 and the Core 2 Duo, but that also depends on what is being run.

I'm curious what people consider a high end computer at this moment in time?

Hi Dave: Your question has been asked in so many ways over the past few years and, with the greatest respect to everybody who responds .... I am usually left with more questions than answers. In fact, the dialogue generally gets elevated way over my head. So here I am, happily prepared to spend over $2,000.00Cdn but only knowing a small part of what I think I need! I do know that a "package" tends to come loaded with stuff I don't need, and I also know that going to a builder means I have to totally trust their recommendations. So many "experts" on gaming pc's do not appear to understand that Trainz is not your typicaL game!

My idea of high end:

nVidia 8800GTX (or GTS) 768mb video card
2GB+ memory

I am hoping that your thread will 'fill in some blanks' for me!

Regards. Colin.

I suggest starting another thread but the blanks would probably be run TC since it seems to understand Vista, and I'd go 64 bit Vista.

Motherboard ASUS but X38 based chipset, processor Intel dual core but the 45 whatevers are just round the corner so I'd hold back for a day or two then think DDR3 memory on a X38 motherboard.

These choices are leading or bleeding edge this week so I suggest waiting until January and the xmas rush has died down and things have settled down a bit.

Cheerio John
