Making Melbourne train network

Now I live in Melbourne and I know it aint simple. But I made it into a 5 step plan.

1. Get Topograpgy and map things like with the bit from willamstown to filinders street on some route, that shows all the tracks and roads.
2. Lay the track along the whole line
3. add in stations, put the track at the correct height (such as at flinders st viaduct, city loop)
4. add in roads and level crossings
5. load up some scenery around the track

what a simple plan, anyone think it could work? also anyone tell me how todo the first thing?

Well, clearly 1 person from MSTS decided to build a fairly inaccurate version of Melbourne... Doesn't seem that unlikely to me. There's not 1 Person from Trainz who has the time, inspiration and skills needed to build around Melbourne. (well, I did build Flinders St and all around Melbourne but only the tracks and basic scenery got done)

It sounds easy when you put it like that, but it takes forever and it's really exceptionally time-consuming and frustrating at times.

And...

How do we know or not know if someone is in the process of creating this very complex network of tracks and the many routes in and out of the city. I remember there was someone back on the pre-2006 forums that was working on an Australian commuter network. It may very well have been this one, but it's been nearly 8 years and things do get a bit foggy after that length of time. :)

It was Sydney and has long been vapourware.

Not to mention, I would assume someone building such a network would be apart of this community, or Victrainz

There is a thread somewhere on a Melbourne CBD tram layout - or there was a few months ago anyway. Searching the forum for 'Melbourne' should show it up...

If someone/many people can do step 1 and make stations, notably an old one like seddon, spotswood, footscray, yarraville, seaholme, which are all basically the same model with diffrent platform numbers and on diffrent curves, as well as Southern cross and flinders street, then i can do everything else, and have it released within 10 weeks.

G'day Bomberswarm2,

...indeed, as H222 has observed, you have chosen to take a huge bite out of a very much bigger apple. I should advise you that a great deal of the Melbourne suburban network is already available, having been created in TransDEM by my good self, in DEM based "bare-bones" routes. Having said that, it should be noted that this 'collection' is a "motley", not necessarily compatible lot, created over a number of years with varying DEM data, which H222 has managed to 'stitch' together somewhat successfully...

...I would also respectfully suggest that you "get ye hence" over to (and become a registered member of) the VicTrainz Discussion Forum (joining is free)...

http://www.forum.victrainz.com.au

..., where you will converse with like minded people and find out much more about that which you seek to do (believe me, that estimate of 10 years for the completion date of your proposed project is VERY conservative)...

Funny, a few things.
1. I have never been able to view that forum before as i had not registered, but for some reason now i can
2. I signed up 4 months ago and recived an email saying the administrator was reviewing my account. I never recived another email.

So can you please point me in the direction to be able to access the site?

Sydney Metro.
Ive been working on a Sydney based layout in the background for some time (years) now. The layout includes the City Circle and main passenger and freight lines out to Parramatta in the west, Cabramatta in the s/w and Wolli Creek in the south. Due to the complexity of the lines Ive only placed minimal scenery in the suburban areas but have tried to get all of the rail infrastructure as accurate as possible. I will probably complete the Main South from Cabramatta down to Leumeah/ then Picton to connect with existing layouts.
stay tuned.
