Low detail, and lag...

3Ds MAX will be my demise
G'day. :(

Okay, I'm having lagging issues. I'm trying to create a lo-poly low-detail route so Trainz doesn't lag but guess what, it lags. My worst FPS was 2.3, not the 20 to 40 FPS with one baseboard with no texture etc that it should be. As I am no whizz with computers, what really makes Trainz lag? So I can update that and Trainz will no longer lag, is it Memory or RAM? Because I am sick and tired of having to look from a birds eye view just to get decent FPS.

Cheers... :(

Jake.

G'day!

What is the best processor for Trainz? Are there other issues with my hardware you can see? Do I have the Recommended specs for Trainz?

Cheers! :)

Jake.

Jake,

Paul's reply was a bit blunt but unfortunately he is right. Your RAM is also a little on the lean side also and you dont give your graphic card details.

You should try moving all sliders to the left in options, try swapping between DirectX and OpenGL, also try changing between compatibility and native modes.

Someone with similar specs to yours may be along soon to tell you how they have their system set up, you can then try what works for them on your machine. With the specs that you have though I dont think that you can expect too much

G'day!

I can't seem to find what my Graphics Card is anywhere on my system. Computers confuse me.

Cheers! :)

G'day!

Okay, I think I've found my Graphics Card.

I have a NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT 1265MB Card.

Cheers! :)

In vew of your posted specs I would suggest that the problem is certainly with your processor. You RAM could do with an extra 1GB but the 'bottleneck' is in your processing power....or lack of !!

Andy

Well, your running a high end video card with a cut down processor. Your processor cant keep up with your video card.

I run a Dual-Core P4 at 3.0Ghz (2.93) with a Geforce 8800 GT/TOP (512M) all setting maxxed with my high poly models (12 baseboards) at 90FPS average.

Definitely do something about the celery pushing uphill :)

I'm having the exact same problems. I just started trying to play this game the other day and its like playing FSX on a Pentium 4.

I have an i5 2.40GHz, and 6G RAM. Why would this thing be lagging so bad?

Same story when I bring down all of the video settings to bare minimums.

Help?

Welcome to the club dude, I'm on a Phenom II 965 Black Edition, with Nvidia 480 GTX Graphics, 8Gb and Win 7 64-bit, and I get gameplay stutters whenever there are excessive trees around.

It definitely doesn't run as well as it "should" given that its a new release, running on hardware thats less than 1 year old.

welcome to the stutters club. check my thread for the woes I've been experiencing with a tower that should be just fine running trainz. Maybe Auran themselves can address this issue

dont dis the pentium 4. I've been running trainz with direct x on my old pentium 4HT with minimal lag, usually just a ton of trees causes lag or zooming in close

The Speed Trees can cause lag if there are too many of them as I've found out the hard way. Try "thinning" the forests a bit. They're a lot bigger and you can use fewer of them for the same tree coverage results.

Another thing too, go into the environment settings for the route in Surveyor, and turn down the wind to nothing. This will definitely help with the frame rates as I've found in the past.

John

I've found that country maps with loads of trees, water and mountains, etc don't make me lag at all but if I try a map with buildings/cities/towns I lag. If I look around on a map like that then my frame rates go below 10 :(

Try making a country map and see if it lags less.

Very low power

Is that computer aincent or what!? That looks almost prehistoric in a computer's time scale.
I have two options for you. You've got just enough RAM, a fair graphics card, but not the best CPU.
  1. Best: Get a new computer with more power and run trainz on that, preferably with a strong processor such as the Intel i3, i5 or the i7. I know little about the AMD Vision, but that'll do as well I guess. However, AMD's have a reputation to be a lot harder on the hardware than intels.
  2. OK: Set all your resolution and all the options to low detail and low power demand. Maybe you could see about replacing the processor.
And by the way, what is your OS?

AMD Vision is simply a term given by AMD to say that it has a integrated graphics card and is most popular in the laptop area but has been seen on desktops as well. So it can range from anything to anything.
Most AMD processors can stand up to the intel processors in everything but the cache department. I honestly have seen very little or no performance difference between AMD or Intel machines.

Just two of the many reviews comparing AMD's best next to Intel's -

Months ago I thought maybe AMD might have a chance with the upcoming “Bulldozer” CPU but some of the recent rumors about the CPU's performance hasn’t been that good (I hope they are wrong).

Then there's the ramblings that came out this week that their future is in question -
