Looks like he tried to beat the lights

man, what part of stop don't these motorists understand,if a speeding train is rolling down the tracks, you are suppose to stop, fortunately, only 21 people were injured, but the next time this happens, the outcome will not be the same,so what we have here is a idiot who tried to race the oncoming train only to wind up in the hospital!

Don't think he tried to beat the lights.
From what I heard the crossing is a unmanned gated one where you are supposed to phone up Network Rail and find out if it is safe to cross, and only cross when you have permission that it is safe to do so from the signalbox. Network Rail have said that they did not recieve a call from the lorry, so it looks like they just assumed it was safe and ventured out without checking it was safe to do so. Shame people don't seem to learn, wasn't that long ago, a few weeks at the latest since the results of a inquest of a woman killed on the Cambrian Line in Mid Wales was published where the same thing happened, only that time sadly resulting in loss of life.

All the best to the people who were injured

To be fair the lorry driver was an Eastern European national so may not of known what to do. The fact still remains though, he could of killed someone and if he wasn't sure what to do, he defiantly shouldn't of tried to cross.

In which case his employer should have briefed him. According to tonight's ITV news he had a good grasp of English.

Oh, BBC News channel implied that he didn't (they seemed to say very forcefully that he was eastern European)
