Hi all,
I am trying to find someone to make a DEM of a specific area. I only want to make 1 route and would like it as accurate as possible. Google earth has the terrain, and I for the life of me can not understand all that needs to be done using the TransDEM program. Any help on this project would really be appreciated:udrool::).
Thanks in advance
Wayne

What exactly is the problem? Which difficulties did you encounter?

I do not have the TransDem program, but looking at the Tutorials it seems like someone with very little computer skills(like myself) it looks like there is a lot that needs to done to complete. for 1 route.

The program itself shouldn't present a problem. It's a standard Windows application, with menus, toolbars and dialogs and mouse interaction.

Most of those tutorials deal with special cases or even stretch the limits. Basically, they illustrate the versatility of the program. Notably, many of the features presented there are the result of users requests.

The standard workflow for creating a route is rather simple and easy to remember. The step-by-step tutorials and the examples included in the documentation delivered with the package will guide you. With a bit of experience you will be able to create a shorter route with standard geo data resources within 15 to 20 minutes, including the download of the data. Download and background processing will make up most of that time. I remember I tried with the Isle of Man once, using SRTM DEM and Map Tile ground textures. It took about 40 mouse clicks - I counted - to produce the Trainz route template.

For a real project, with several options on offer, it will take somewhat longer, because you will want to find out what the best data source will be. You may also want to add more map detail or ortho-imagery to the route while building it is already underway.
