Looking for Grade Guide

I have looked all over the DLS, and searched the forums, and found nothing of what I'm looking for.

What I would like is a way to calculate the grade from one end of track to another, does some such tool exist somewhere?

Thanks for your time,
Lenny

The closest thing I can think of is to use the acceleration display on the DLS. Kuid: 71155:60009:1

To use it, add the display custom HUD rule and the acceleration display rule. Then, when you go into to driver, it will tell you the grade percent that the train is on.

Hope this helps:D

I can't say as I have heard of such a tool. I am assuming of course that you mean the average grade between two distant points on a route and not just the grade between two track spline points which can be read in Surveyor. If you were to get the height of the two points and therefore their difference, you could then use the Custom Hud display to give you the milage at the start and the milage at the end, by running a train, and then calculate the average grade.

track scan

There is a program called "Track Scanner" that you can use to measure the distance between any two connected track points in surveyor. Once you have this number, measure the difference in height between the two points. By dividing the distance into the difference in height, using the same units of measure, you will determine a smooth average percentage grade between the two points. You can then use the "get gradient" tool to see if you are on or close to the average grade.

This is not strictly prototypical, as a railroad would not necessarily restructure the entire Earth to build their ROW unless there is a compelling reason to do so, but it does give a good guideline. You will be close if the ruling grade is not excessive.

Track Scanner can easily be found on the DLS.

Hope this helps.
