Looking For A New Group To Form

I'm giving one last shot here to try to get some old school railroading enthusiast together.

There seems to be a group of people not really representing in the Trainz community, this is the old school 40+ somethings and up that enjoy modeling the older railroad content, lets say from the 1960's and older. These folks are out there but spotty at best. It time to combine our forces to make a group. I'm looking for folks that want to share thoughts and ideas about these older routes. Right now I'm just about to start the Laurel Line Project over again that is set in 1950. The only thing that has been done is the map itself...no tracks have been laid at this point. While this layout could be a starting point for the group, the group can work on other projects at the same time.

Are you 40+?
Are you a fan of old school railroading?
Do you feel you can contribute to the cause in any way?

Then post below and join the group.

First order of business...name the group!

Well, I'm a fan of all railroading, not just old school, and I'd be willing to contribute to the cause, but I don't know that I would be interested in joining any group that would reject Jack Benny, whose admitted age never progressed beyond 39, though he admitted attaining that age 41 times.

The age requirement in not really set in stone, I'm just looking to group some of the older folks together that like the older modeling content. No offense to the younger generations, there are some very talented young people out there. I would like to bring model railroading together with a bit of nostalgia.

I'm planning on sending out some joining requests to some of the older creators I've been watching and I think would be great contributors for this group.

Hi their
Are you looking for just American persons to join or internationally such as British contributors.

With Thanks
Bill

Thanks for asking...this is for anybody, anywhere that has the same interests. While I myself like to model American railroads, I'm more then willing to learn about railroads lines in other countries.

I'm very interested in joining this group, so please count me in. I'll give some thought to possible names. My era is pre-1965 and my setting is USA, emphasis on Southern Pacific.

Good luck with your quest I'm retired form modeling and Trainz so I have no more interest in the game.

To be honest, this is a last ditch effort to resurrect my interests in Trainz and as usual, it's not working. This forum is not the same place anymore. There was a time when folks would help each other out and there were many creators out there. It's not like that anymore. I create for the Trainz community, but when I ask for something that I need, I just hear those forum crickets chirping! If you don't believe me, see all the posts I made...then see how many of them where actually answered. I once made a funny comment that I felt like the Charlie Brown of these forums...this is actually becoming true. I seem to get the silent kick around.
I think it's soon time to move on to something else because what ever I liked about Trainz is just not there anymore.

There are alot of younger people who are well knowleged about pre-1970's RR's, and can contribute much, also.

Count me in also.

I Myself, studying history, I have leared much about the era's 1790-1854(the canal period), to 1970.

I'm seeing how many people have real interests in this before I move on with it. Thanks for the post.

Sorry, I missed your post. The age thing is not set in stone...I'm just guessing on an age that folks would be in the older railroads. I'll surely add you to the list.

I Agree & understand the feeling I don't blame you To be blunt this forum as gone to hell fast over the years. I only do privet modeling by request only. I have good reasons for no longer helping. It's nice to see some one stell care anofe to do some good around here. your right thins are not what they use to be sadly.
I do custom modeling ( non Real ) If you do need a waird unit built I can see what I can do How can I help.

I while a bit younger grew up loving the steam era. I also fell in love with all things Santa Fe. While I am not able to create content (I have not had the time to truly learn) I regularly watch the forums and help were I can. My knowlage is more technical than creative. Please know that your work is loved and cherished. I hope that this group helps rekindle your interest in trains and trainz. Though I think my only way to help out in construction would be beta test and constructive criticism

I think also one point is that content creation for Trainz is not as easy as it used to be as there have been many changes over the years and as far as I know it has become more demanding.
Just an academic observation for what it's worth. That is one possible reason why there are not so many content creators...myself included. Barry

I'm only a teenager and my focus is on anything 1829-1968 from England, unless its Great Western post Broad Gauge. Not that I've actually modelled anything from that era though. I don't have the skills yet. YET. :)

Once I improve at modelling I would be interested in joining the group. :)

Well, count me in of course, but you allready knew that, didn't you now. :hehe:

Greetings from nighttime Amsterdam,

Hi LWVRR,

I read this and it made me feel really sad.

Please allow me to insert my $0.02 into your thread.

I'm not entirely sure you are right. There are many who, if approached with respect and commitment to a project are quite willing to lend a hand, and sometimes do even more. I think about guys like Ben Dorsey or N8phu, and I am amazed at what they are willing to do. In fact, one guy, I think it was LWVRR:hehe: , gave me a terrain map of the entire San Francisco Bay Area when all I asked for was a tiny segment of it, and it was a breakthrough that enabled me to realize a project I have been researching for about 7 years, which I am working on now.

This hobby is what we make it, not what others make it. I'm convinced the forum, while frequently useful and something I consult often, is not an accurate picture of Vscale, or its practitioners. It is, in some respects, dreary, rude, and in some cases downright childish. But that is not an accurate reflection of the hobbyists within it. I've almost always gotten useful advice. There is a definite need for the kind of loose confederation you suggest, and I hope you don't give up on it, because I am ready to help in any way I can.

Now, I've budgeted this evening to try to dig up possible names for the group you propose. Let's dig in, find guys whose interests run to "ancient railroading," i.e., before shipping containers, such as Pencil42, Fitz505, and others, and get to work on it. I, for one, think it will be a ton of fun.

Fear not! There is still a hardcore group of 'grayhair' Trainzers out there. True, they're not on the Forum much any more, but then again, many hardly ever posted. But still there. It's friutless to speculate on their percieved silence, because each has his/her reasons.
However, upload an Alco PA in New Haven colors, you'll get a bite; or even a NYC EP3, or a Pennsylvania GG1; how about some 40' box cars in pre-1960 billboard regalia, or some outside braced 40' boxes; wood reefers also.
Although there are many younger Trainzers who model in the old Eastern and Mid-west road names, most only know CSX, Conrail, BNSF, NS, SP & etc.
It's a challange trying to find a boxcar with the Canadian National maple leaf icon or one lettered in New Haven script.
