Logitech Keyboard Issue

I have been experiencing strange anomalies with Logitech Keyboards ever since I originally installed Trainz 2019. I have used three different models of Logitech Keyboards, each with the same issue. I have used a K270, K360, and currently a K545 Keyboard. When I am in Surveyor or Driver, the keyboard randomly stops functioning for several seconds to a minute or longer. Yet, if I leave Trainz open and open Windows Notepad or any application, the keyboard works fine. Then I go back to Trainz, and the keyboard works intermittently.

The K545 keyboard is a wireless keyboard and mouse combo. The wireless mouse performs flawlessly.

I have ran diagnostics on the keyboard and on RAM with no issues being reported. I am currently using Trainz version 114800. The only times I encounter any keyboard issues is when I am in Trainz Surveyor or Driver, but not always.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

I haven't experienced that with mine, but I use the Logitech drivers for the keyboard and mouse.

Are you using the drivers?

Not sure it is related, but I gave up most everything wireless because it seemed like the different devices interfered with each other. I used to have wireless headphones, a wireless keyboard, and a wireless mouse. Now I am back to wires, unfortunately. But your issue appears to be only with Trainz, so I am not sure why just Trainz would have an issue. Maybe if you are running Trainz from a USB drive and the Logitech has a USB dongle the read/writes interrupts could be interfering?

It could be power management. Check your power management profile and set it to high performance if you haven't already. You may have to customize it and turn off the USB port power-off settings. (I can't remember where they are exactly, but it's something to that affect.)

Thank you for your reply, Forester. I am running Trainz on an internal SSD, and the keyboard is using a USB port. I will look into the drivers and everything to do with USB and Bluetooth in hopes of finding something conflicting or out of day.

Thank you for the reply JCitron. Good idea regarding Power Management, I will look at those settings.

That's odd, I'm using a Wireless K270 and M185 mouse and haven't noticed any problems.

USB and Keyboard driver have Power saving disabled, Using standard MS Drivers.

I changed Power Management to High Performance and disabled anything that looked like it would cause any performance hit with no change so far. Still having intermittent non-responsive keyboard only when in Surveyor or Driver.

Check in Device Manager under:

Keyboards > Hid Keyboard device (may show Logitech) > Double click and then click Power management should be able to disable it, may have two entries or more if you have ever used a different keyboard so check them all.
Universal Serial Bus controllers, click each item in there and check for any power management settings and disable.

Had a thought, tried resetting the Keyboard? turn off the switch wait about 3 minutes and then turn it back on, may help.

Thank you again, Clam1952. Good ideas. I uninstalled everything relating to the keyboard and mouse and restarted the computer to auto-detect the keyboard and mouse, and then disabled everything relating to Power Management for the keyboard and mouse.

If this solved the issue, I owe you. Thanks for the great suggestions.

I'm using the G510s with the Logitech Gaming Software 9.00.42 and everything is working as expected. I have lots of macros programmed and they are all working.

Thank you for your reply, WReeder. I took a look at the specifications for the G510s keyboard. A Gaming keyboard is overkill for me, although having 18 programmable keys would be nice.

I think what was my problem was Power Management settings. I uninstalled the keyboard and mouse and restarted the computer and let Windows 11 auto-detect both and disabled all the Power and Ease of Access settings. I hope that has resolved what I was experiencing.

You get around, Clam1952. I think the keyboard issue has been resolved. I'm keeping my fingers crossed while I try to recreate the issue. I think it was caused by a combination of Windows Power Management and Ease Of Success. I disabled all the settings I could understand.

I have the Logitech K520 wireless keyboard and M510 wireless mouse combo and I'm having the same problem. I started to type "I have the Logitech" and nothing appeared for a couple seconds until " have the Logitech" appeared on the screen.

Jordon, if you are on a PC or Laptop with Windows 10 or 11, do you know how to use Device Manager? Check the Properties for any Human Interface Devices and Logitech/Keyboard and look at the Power Management Tab. Untick "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". I also Unticked "Allow this device to wake the computer".

Then go into Ease of Access Settings and disable Filter Keys if that was enabled.

Hope this helps. It seems to have resolved my issue. Good luck and please post your results here. I have more steps if this doesn't fix the keyboard lag.

I hope so too. It actually has 3 banks of 18 programmable keys. The M1, M2 and M3 keys switch between the banks. I agree it is overkill for most people but I like mechanical switches and I do a lot of video editing and the programmable keys come in very handy there.

54 Programmable Keys, I can think of some repeatable tasks to put those keys to work for me. ;) But then reality would set in and I would need a cheat sheet to remember what all those 54 keys do. -lol Too bad I can't reprogram my short-term memory loss.
